Steelcase is an excellent brand. Worth the money but generally these are built to last and can be fixed as needed by parts from them.

I'd def get a second hand bc of the ridiculous cost. I have a euro tech bought at the start of the pandemic for daily work use $700…good but after research regret not getting the steelcase 2nd hand.

I do not know anything about this vendor but seems ok. Note credit card warranty do not cover pre owned products
From someone that has a HM aeron, HM Mira 1, Steelcase Amia, Steelcase Leap V2, Haworth Zody, and Haworth Very: best bang for the buck is the Haworth Zody.

Most Comfortable :
1. Zody
2. Amia
3. Leap V2

Best Recline:
1. Leap V2
2. Zody
3. Amia

Widest:
1. HM aeron
2. Zody
3. Very

Armrest:
1. Leap V2/Amia
2. Zody
3. HM Aeron

Obviously my opinion, but I've actually own these. Another sleeper would be the Knoll Life chair that you can find on CL or FB for like $30. Most of my friends that sit on one prefer it more than the HM products.
January 14, 2013 I bought a brand new Leap Chair from AllModern, who at the time was an authorized dealer.
Happy with it, I then bought another new one in January 2021 (to put in front of my musical keyboard) from this thread: https://slickdeals.net/f/14775508-new-steelcase-leap-chair-705-tax-fs-black-amazon-seller-amazon-authorized-reseller
The problem i always had with "cheap" office chairs from Best Best or Office Depot, was that the chair would eventually detach from the base pole. ...usually resulting in me doing a dramatic and comical backwards roll-out off the chair like a SCUBA diver entering the water, when they finally catastrophically fail.
The new Leap I bought in 2021 had me convinced I'd finally left that design problem behind. ↑ (2013 one was also still going strong) ...by spending about 7 times what I had usually spent on a new office chair. (going from about $100 with cheap chairs, to a whopping $700 for a Leap)
Now as I sit in my old 2013 chair, it squeaks very loudly when it pivots. And now (in the last week or so) I have begun listing hard to the left. Plus plastic bits have been breaking off and disintegrating the whole time. I often find little bits of broken black plastic on my floor under my chair.
My point is just to say, even these "nice" chairs are still far from bulletproof, though they ARE considerably tougher than standard cheapo office chairs.
It's tough call, whether they are actually worth it or not.
Comfort-wise they are great, and that's definitely worth a lot, for the time that they are working.
I'm interested in trying a Herman Miller Aeron chair next, since that was always my neck-and-neck pick versus Steelcase Leap anyway.

I don't know how I should trust a company that is unwilling to hire someone who has the resources to take proper pictures, like a photographer would.
Look at their reviews? Read what people here have said about them?
They sell THOUSANDS of chairs, typically 'individual' listings per chair - their pictures are pretty representative of the chair you'll get. They do usually take close-ups of any damage present on their 'grade B' chairs, too.

i bought the refurbished Leap from Maidison through the ebay store. Thoroughly happy with what I received for the price.

Reupholstered, and non-OEM vinyl arm pads are really the only things noticeable.

I realize they get a bad rap for "open box", but I did the research and bought "refurbished" through ebay for that reason. I'm glad I did.

I previously had a steel case leap V2 that I bought based on all the reviews online and I honestly hated it. About 2 years ago I found a great condition Haworth Fern on marketplace for a price I couldn't pass up to try it. By far the most comfortable chair I've ever sat in.

I'm a pretty big person at over 6 foot four. I used to go through a lot of chairs until I bought a steel case used. I've never bought another chair. I did have to replace the arm pads and that was like $14 on Amazon. And they're softer than the ones that came with, which is nicer.

Damn I've wanted a Herman Miller Embody but these prices on the Fern and Leap are very tempting

Never bought second hand chairs before, is this a good deal? How worn would these open box return/grade A be?
For a high end chair like Steelcase, yes, it is OK to buy used. These are really well built chairs. The difference is startling.

I bought the Steelcase series 2 grade A for roughly $400. It was shipped well and easy to assemble. Also bought the headrest for another $100

My experience with Crandall when I bought my Aeron from them was not the best, it arrived with a couple of bent pieces and they basically said "That's great, but its expected deal with it" after ignoring my first few attempts to reach out. Not super happy getting a chair that rattles for as costly as the chair was, but I'm not convinced their customer service is as great as people seem tot hink.

Hope somebody has some experience and can offer their thoughts. I'm a 270 lb 6'2" guy and sit in a cheaper office chair for work 8 hours a day.

I've replaced 3 chairs in the last 6 years after they all started falling apart and/or squeaking and screeching when I adjust in it. My currect $120 chair is so noisy it's embarrassing when I'm on calls.

How do these brand chairs hold up to a heavy guy that sits 8 hours a day?

Should I expect them to also start making a ton of noise 1 year into use? Can they be lubricated easily?

Thanks for any advice and personal experience you can share.
