No quite the opposite: everyone signing a two year deal with a carrier to get a phone is getting screwed. The bootloader is always locked and you pay more for service which arguably isnt better than an MVNO on the same network.
I've had 3 MVNOs... Service on all 3 has sucked, sometimes even in big cities. When we're on the road, Internet was super spotty... Which doesn't work when one person is driving and one person working.

We did ATTsn 3 yr commitment for free pixel xl 9 pros with old Google Pixel. No regrets. If service gets crazy expensive, we'll do a buyout with someone else once we get under the limit

Any chance it rings up at $399 despite showing as $549 online at the store?
Following up on my previous post. I went to a Target that allegedly had the porcelain in stock for $549. It was listed as $799 in the cage. I had a clerk take it out and ring it up citing I was curious about the price as it was different online. And surprisingly it rang up as $399. Thanks OP!

Damn, to think I signed 2 year deal for these last holiday season 🤦🤦
Sales must be abysmal
If the carrier deal gave you the phone discounted or free, that's not a bad deal if you don't have plans to switch carriers in the next 2 years.

2 Obsidian available in Milford OH. They are showing OOS for some reason in the Target online web inventory, but they had them in the back and not in the display cases for some odd reason. They do show up as in-stock on the handheld inventory checkers.

Now I just need to figure out if I keep the Pixel 8a for $299 or the $399 Pixel 9!

That's a good question. Is this for you or a gift/resell? Assuming it's a daily driver, do you normally keep your phones for at least 2-3 years? If both are 128GB, I would lean towards the Pixel 9 which is usually $300 difference (based on MSRP), more RAM, larger battery, etc. Let us know what you end up keeping as I'm curious.

I made the mistake of looking at BestBuy and they have the Pixel 9 Pro XL Hazel (which is what I really wanted) for $549 with carrier activation. Now I'm trying to hunt one down in the stores because they don't offer shipping.

Not for everyone and not necessarily a better deal but if you have service through mint, they have this phone for the same price (shippable, no need to search in store):

Pixel 9 128GB Obsidian: $399.00+tax
Pixel 9 Pro 128GB Obsidian: $599.00+tax
Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB Obsidian: $699.00+tax

If you don't have service with mint, you can still get these phones at this price if you bundle these with their 1 year unlimited (ul talk, test, data) plan for additional $180
If I'm already a Mint customer, how do you get that price without buying the year of service (that requires a port-in)?

I have a Pixel 8 Pro and there is a Target nearby with the Pixel 9 in stock at $525. Same number of gbs as my phone but it doesn't seem worth the hassle to upgrade? Smaller screen and the difference in speed probably can't be something I can notice.

Not sure why rage on this?

Pixel 10 is coming, will be new deals.

2024 moto g stylus is like $50-$250 depends on which loop you want to jump through and it's 90% of this phone at fraction of the cost.

What am I missing? That it's a pixel and will get long updates? That's pretty much it, no?
