The string trimmer sucks, though. I can't make it through an edging session without having to fix the line 3 times (minimum). It does a pretty OK job advancing line, but it also likes to get sucked back into the plastic housing, forcing you to stop, pop off the head, and often, rewind your string again. I do not recommend, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd look for something 40V, or better, an 80v Kobalt trimmer.
(I have the 80v Kobalt edger, and it's awesome.)
That's a good question and I don't have the answer. My guess is no and the reason I say that is because I attempted to remove the guard from the trimmer a few years ago to allow a wider cut, but the brains of the trimmer didn't like that at all and it wouldn't spin up. I'd imagine it has some way of knowing what the balance of the motor needs to be and the extra line must have thrown it off balance. I'd suspect any attachment that added blades to the end would result in the same experience.
I haven't had the same issues as the commenter above you in having to re-feed the line multiple times during use, but I do make sure I'm using the specified diameter line and that might be what is causing the issue. I will agree with them that it's a pain to re-string, so I can understand how that would be incredibly frustrating if you had to do it all the time. I have no experience with the 80v line for Kobalt, but I will say the 40v line hasn't impressed me. The tools feel of significantly inferior quality to the 24v line. I have the 40v hedge trimmer and my parents have the 40v weed eater. I prefer the 24v weed eater to the 40v personally and I've had fairly extensive use with it when helping them with yard work.
Edit - Kobalt does make a 24v version of an attachment capable trimmer base that would allow an edger, brush cutter (blades), pole saw, etc... but it costs the same as this kit does for just the tool only with no attachments or batteries/chargers. I do plan on picking that up at some point, but I'm waiting for a deal first.
The 12inch cutting path is painfully small and reloading is a PIA.
I use it as my backup if the gas trimmer get fussy or I just need to touch up a few spots.

Got these when they were $99 for the set. They work great. I have EGO set as well, and I like the Kobalt blower better, but prefer the EGO trimmer.
