New "Redesign" view issues

9,499 1,446 April 4, 2025 at 01:23 PM
Surprised there aren't more posts about the new "redesign" view (not mobile version but desktop version). I think the main issue I'm having is when replying to a comment in a deal forum...instead of the normal box that pops up in the lower right, I get a very simplistic text entry box right below the post I'm replying to and there are no formatting or other controls! How to add a URL or make something bold, or anything other than the 3 buttons they give you for emoji, attach a picture and I forget the 3rd but all the normal controls are gone.

Now, if I'm not in a deal forum, reply does the normal box in the with all the tools. And the frontpage looks even more different. The lack of uniformity is getting crazy.

I hate it.

Thanks for making a post on the Desktop redesign! I don't post anymore, so I figured I was just missing a general feedback thread somewhere. I'm wondering if the lack of posts is because they are A/B testing them to a limited number of users. On my primary browser (Firefox) I see the changes while logged in, I don't see them logged out in Edge, and I do see them logged out in Chrome.

As for my feedback, the new Frontpage is not good. There's no "Personalize Frontpage" button, which if re-added/fixed may address these issues, but:
  1. The "Deals Just For You" section is permanently on top, with no option to remove it.
  2. The same post may appear multiple times if it meets different types of criteria (in the "Deals Just For You" section, regular Frontpage, Promoted, or Personalized). The attached image shows an All-Clad Factory Seconds post THREE times in one visible region of the frontpage.
  3. Chronology seems broken. I just want to see an uninterrupted grid/table of non-expired Frontpage deals ordered descending by when they they made the Frontpage, and newly added deals should have the "New" marker. But there are seemingly random posts strewn about and it's hard to find where I left off from the last time I visited the Frontpage. Maybe it's because there are so many Personalized/Promoted deals mixed in.

EDIT: I scrolled down on the frontpage after making this post, and wow. The All-Clad deal appeared a FOURTH time, and the Costco Hand Truck that first appeared in the "For you" section showed up three times right next to each other! What is this?

EDIT 2: Now I don't see either my original attachment or the new one I added, even thought they both show up in the editpost php view. I give up

On the website I still can't reply to people.

Also the threads at times are so light grayish it's hard to read. Like it's expired.

I hate this new design.

How do we change it back to what it was previously?

It's harder to follow the flow of comments, than before. Before, it had distinct separation lines which allowed me to track what I've read already.

Right? Where is the "opt-out" of this experiment of theirs? Now, in this forum, things are the old way (which is good). I'm replying via a comment box with all the tools and the "Go Advanced" button. If I go to a deal thread, the whole page is different and replying is so basic there are practically no tools to do anything.

I want out, please! Wink

There should be a link at the bottom of the page to switch back to Classic. The new site design is being worked on so feedback is helpful and can sometimes get rolled out quickly.

Well, I don't want Classic. I wasn't on "classic" before, I was on Redesign (the previous one that I like). Oddly, this forum is in the original redesign so you must be able to control which forums get which look?

Classic looks old and I wasn't using Classic. Can you explain why in the "new redesign" the comment boxes have lost all formatting controls? How we supposed to embed URL or apply formatting?

One more thing...my forum skin is Sky Blue. Why does it Frontpage is in sky blue, but if I go to Computers Deals, it's all white? All white is terrible for my OLED which is why I chose Sky Blue but the color choice doesn't seem to follow me throughout SD's.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The new version is a work in progress so I'm pretty sure those tools are in the works. After the weekend a developer can give a more definite answer.

Is there an already established place, other than this thread I created to offer feedback?

Another thing that sucks in the new redesign is to get to another page or the end of a huge multi-page thread, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to get to the page controls. Please put page controls at the top of each page too.

Lastly the midnight color theme uses a dark blue for some things in forum listings making it impossible to see that dark blue on a dark grey background.
In this picture below, the names below the date and time are barely legible.

Really not liking the redesign. I want to hide "deals for you" but there's no longer a way of doing it. I reverted back to the old design but that was hard to get to with the new "scroll down to load more" feature.

I am not a fan of the new iOS app at all. Did they not hire a UX expert before doing this. Everything is harder to read and unintuitive. The list of deals and scrolling through comments is much less efficient (see a lot, fewer deals and comments on the screen so it's a ton of wasted space). Take it back to the old design till you get this figured out, please

For the new website design feedback, there is a blue button on the bottom right side of the page/screen. The devs are actively monitoring the feedback that comes in and are taking it into account when fixing or tweaking stuff.

If you choose to give feedback, please give actual details of what bothers you or what you want to see. When someone just says 'it sucks', they can't do anything about that. They need to know what sucks specifically in order to change or fix it. Wink

For the android app, there is a small icon at the bottom right of the screen that says 'feedback' by it and then sort of looks like a bullhorn when it's collapsed. I assume the iOS app has similar. And as above, if you do give feedback, please give details and specifics of what you don't like.

They are listening and taking all the feedback into account, for the apps and the site. So tell them what you want or don't want. They can't fix or change what they don't know someone dislikes if you don't give details.

And if there is something you actually like, you can tell them that too Wink They're working very hard to get things the way users want whenever possible and a little kudos from time to time goes a long way to boost their morale too.

If I might offer a suggestion, make this information about the new GUI design and how to feedback more front-and-center so people know. I just spent 5 minutes trying to find said "feeback button" and discovered it's only there when on a deal page. Not on the deal listing page, nor the frontpage, nor in the forums like here.

So far, If they're improving it, I can't see the progress. The #1 thing that needs fixing is comment input box. ZERO formatting controls. Huge step backwards with no way to get to the advanced comment box. I will give feedback on that, but hopefully some changes start rolling out soon.

Here's what they can do to fix it: 1) REVERT BACK TO WHAT IT WAS PREVIOUSLY.

There was no problem with the design before. Why do they always insist on messing with something that currently works?

The site is only hurting itself, because it's such a bad user experience, people abandon their session here, while waiting for this site to work out whatever it's going through.

I'll give them your suggestion that the feedback button would do better on more than just deal threads, good idea.

They did announce the new redesign stuff, back in Sept last year, so they're not hiding it Wink https://slickdeals.net/f/17790153-upcoming-iterative-improvements-to-redesign-deal-details-page-search-experience-engine-and-homepage?v=1

You're welcome to add your feedback to that thread, or via the feedback button on the page again or via the feedback email that's in the first post of the announcement thread.

But I saw recently that they ARE working on tweaking or reworking the comment box stuff though not sure if that's for the site or the apps or both, so have patience please.
