I purchased two and received the following manufacturing dates:

Week 43 of 2022
Week 11 of 2023
Appreciate this ; I have two expiring in Sept 2025. So if I can get dates like these it'll bring them close in line with my other 2 expiring 2033.

Warning - I bought 6 wired units on a Costco sale and had them installed by my electrician. I then was having some connectivity issues and contacted support. After going through the hassle that that was, they said they would replace all 6 brand new units. They sent me 6 5 year old units.

These have a life of 10 years, my brand new ones all had 10 years and the replacements they sent me for OOB failure units were 5 years old. what shelf did they find these on? I complained and support told me they have no control over what units are shipped or where they came from. I had to mess around with my original units and send back my replacements.

Another issue is - I have NO IDEA if these things are working. The only thing the app says is "everything is ok" but there is no real detail or way to test them like you would on a normal unit.

Be forewarned.
You can test them from the app or by pressing the giant button on the detector itself.

These are nightmares. Never again.
Really bad timing for me since I just bought it. Luckily, I just checked the receipts and looks like walmart does 90-day return policies. So let's see.

These were supposed to be beneficial for low battery warnings…. Had two recently where I got a low battery warning then 15 minutes later got the constant chirp with a replace now warning. Which completely defeats the feature.

Google already announced they're discontinuing the product, and discounted cause you're likely to get one already halfway through its useful life. If you don't already have these and don't need a current replacement, you're better off waiting for the first alert product set to replace this.

Sure it's not expired? It's also set to chirp when it hits the expiration date.

Yes, I am sure. I have had 20 or so of these over the years.

Google has confirm these will be supported until end of life and I'd believe them.

Nevertheless, I never understood why these were ever so popular, especially at the VERY expensive price! I don't get it ...

Reasons i liked these are
1: the motion activated night light, if i have to get up and piss in the middle of the night I don't have to turn on lights walking in the hallway to my bathroom, basically a motion activated night light
2: if you're cooking and the detector starts to sense smoke it will send a message to your phone, then you can tell it to ignore that so it doesn't sound the alarm.
3 if your detector alarm ever does go off you don't have to scramble to grab a chair or ladder to reach it to turn it off. You can just turn off with app
4. If, say you were not home and you received a message that it was detecting smoke then you could use your in home and exterior cameras to confirm smoke and then call the fire department. That would give you a lot faster time to save your house or your pets vs. not having that and waiting for a neighbor or someone driving by to see your house fully engulfed before calling 911.

The first one i could live without but the others i will be looking for something that covers those next time buying detectors

Also if you're a true slick dealer you aren't paying full price for these or anything really. I waited for them to go on sale at lowes and then got 20% off promo with lowes cc, plus cashback site

They don't have the path light feature, which is one of the most innovative features of the whole thing. Basically killing off a product with solid features to be replaced with one with less features that is marginally cheaper but not enough to make replacing the expired ones relatively cheap.

Combination greed and planned obsolescence. And for what?
Not only the path light but what I like about Nest is that it handles both slow and fast fires. I understand the new one doesn't cover both. Hopefully some company can buy any patents from Google on this.

I understand... These were still expensive up until 2021 about before sales...either way I guess I don't value the features much and a regular smoke alarm has always done fine... But I get it that the features can be important.. thanks

I have 3 of these. Bought them for $35 when they were selling off 4 years ago.
It works well with Google home.
Mine works w The Nest App. Far superior app vs. Google home.
It has been trouble free for last 4 years.
Mine will be expiring 2028 and on. Will change back to regular ones when time comes. And maybe think about ZWave standalone.

Google has been killing Nest since they bought it. These are expensive but worth it, and losing the night light feature really bites. I only use it in one of them, but it helps tremendously to allow me to see without waking up my wife. And, when the dog wanders into the hallway, there's a visual sign of it.

The thought of going back to First Alert is depressing.

I bought three of these and regret it. Not good support from Google when these have issues.
