I think I'm going to hold off and wait for the replacement:

I wish Google would stop killing stuff.

It's hard to trust any of their series/lines to be around for a long time.
Agreed, but in this case they will support the product until it expires.

I have quite a few of these in my home. Looking to change to another brand that's similar (if possible)…anyone have any recommendations?
I'm using X-Sense at our cottage.

There is no 10 year warranty. The device is only good up to 10 yrs just like other sensors in the market.

The x-sense system is much better but unfortunately they do not offer a hard wired option - so I am stuck with two systems and the crappy Kidde interface. I think I chose the best Nest replacement, but it's a disappointment

What's this then? https://www.amazon.com/X-Sense-De...0CF26BNJN/ [amazon.com]
That's not smart/app alerts. Just loud (and voice) like a regular smoke/CO

Sorry - should have been more specific - there is no xsense hardwired smart option that works with their app and provides remote notifications.

Does this mean, my nest will stop working? In terms of app notifications and such.
No. They will continue to be supported [theverge.com]: Google says the Nest Protect will continue to receive security updates and work as expected through its expiration dates (10 years from the date of manufacture for second-gen models).

I have 4. I like some of the features and since I got wired version it has saved me replacing 9V batteries all the time and the dreaded 'help me chirp'. Telling me which detector is the source is also really useful. That said one disappointment I've had is one of my pain points I was trying to get rid of by changing over to the Nests was the 'searing a steak false alarms' from my original detectors. I had understood that the Nest would (or at least should) give you a heads up when it first thinks there might a problem giving a short time to silence it before the alarm goes off for real. That has never worked from me - always goes from 'all good' straight to going off. Also while the button on the thing is easier to get to then the small one on normal 'dumb' detectors I still typically have had to use it because the time it takes to open the phone app, have it connect to the detectors, and have it process a command to silence it from the app ends up being longer than just walking up to the thing.I got mine a few years ago with an expiration date of 2032 - kinda screwed up that people buying them years after me are getting expire dates earlier than mine. I'm actually kinda glad First Alert is taking over the product line (well, its replacement).
If you have older units and are getting false alarms, it could be the sensor is going bad or the sensor needs to be vacuumed - or you just make a really mean steak!

I picked up some from ebay cheap with newer expiration as the 2 I had now expire this year. These will last me til 2030 and I am only out $50 total. I see no reason for them not to continue to work until then at which I hope there will be something better on the market by then.
I really tried to find a replacement for them with no luck. The pathlight is extremely nice and there is virtually nothing out there that has that or presence sensing that I found. Also like have HA integration. Sadly these seem like one of a kind with the feature set so hopefully someday something else comes along
Mine notified me last week mine are expiring in July of this year. My app shows the protect portion as orange in color instead of green now. I also noticed the "night light" feature now glows orange instead of the standard white it normally shines. I am expecting them to "brick" once they hit their date.

I just received 4. All 4 were manufactured in 2022.
That is so wild that they can send you older items like this without disclosing first. I mean, I'm tempted to order anyway but they should really let you know this up front.

Still kicking myself that I returned a set to Costco because of the manufacture date only to watch them disappear off the costco website and get discontinued. Now I'm rolling the dice on my last two to finish off my house. These things have been a god send. I have a baby (now toddler) who is terrified that the fire alarms are going to go off in the middle of the night because our old First Alert units kept throwing false alarms and it's always at 1-3am. They were all just a few years old. Every time I replaced a faulty one another went off. They had such a high failure rate that even if you replaced every single one with brand new chances were that one of them would throw a false alarm which of course triggers all of them. I haven't had a false alarm yet with these devices. Stupidly overpriced for what they are but god damn is the piece of mind worth it and it's also nice to know that I'll get an alert if something happens while I'm gone and I can notify the fire department and neighbor to let out my dog. In 7-ish years I'll figure out what I want to install next.

These are quite good and look far better than the usual beige plastic crap sensors. Their functionality was better before Google bought them and took a huge dump on them. You know, like everything they buy then screw up and kill.

I bought three of them about five years ago for the 'normal" price back then of $99 each. How lovely too see the thieves at Google blowing them out without a warranty and years short of the guaranteed life of the product for just $4 more than the real 10 year version was five years ago.

They should come with the new Goggle motto inscribed on the back of every hardware product they have: "First, screw the end user."
