I mean, considering the other deals that are available today, it's not bad, but this is NOT a great deal. Buy if you need to buy NOW, but if you can, wait!

Any recommendations for deal (or where to look for one) on an office (not gaming) tower to replace one that is not Win11 ready? Prefer Intel but don't care which one. Need to support two monitors (hdmi or dp). Must have 32GB or 1x16GB and I'll add the other. Would like a board that supports RAID as I'm old school and use HDD for storage while running OS and apps on SSD. Don't seem to see much like this on SD. Gaming PCs and weak, refurbished HP type desktops.

Unless you can 100% match the RAM to what's installed, upgrading alongside it is a bad idea.

This is because memory interleaving and XMP depend on matched pairs.

As for RAID, the motherboard isn't a problem. It's trying to find a case that can accommodate them.

You might want to look into a DAS or NAS.

Matched ram is no longer a necessity. The fast ram will clock down to the lower ram speed. It's really not a big deal today, especially on Intel CPUs that are less impacted by ram speed.

Did I say anything about clock speed?

The only memory that absolutely required identical clocks was RAMBUS.

It's a requirement for memory interleaving and a common sense performance recommendation when it comes to memory timing.

If your board supports dual, tri, or quad channel addressing, homogeneous matched pairs are either mandatory or at minimum, best practice.

They are sold in matched pairs for a reason.

Please do your homework before trying to correct people.

You mentioned XMP which is specifically for clock speed and timing, so yeah you did mention clock speed whether you intended to or not.

What consumer motherboard supports tri or quad channel addressing?? This is a $900 prebuilt consumer PC thread. Read the room. Sure, matched pairs are ideal, but the average user buying something like this will not notice a difference. I like to give practical advice, because there's such a thing as diminishing returns.

I found this pocket protector, is it yours poindexter?

it only helps to increase sales. Good luck training with only 8GB of VRAM. Maybe some of the older 7B models, but that is about it.

Uh, XMP is actually more strict than interleaving when it comes to matched pairs. What you're talking about doesn't work at all with XMP.

You're just moving goalposts to fit your clown narrative.

And this board does support dual channel. By not getting matched pairs, you're leaving free performance on the table. Does that sound smart to you?

If anyone needs a read on the room, it's you. I tried being helpful. You're just here to make snarky comments. And nothing is more Poindexter than trying to correct people and still being dead wrong. Total Elon energy.
