No. Mac Mini M4 does not use standard SSD's. There are a couple companies that have reverse-engineered Apple's SSD's and sell them much cheaper. I think a 2TB is between $270 and $320. One of the companies is called iBoff.

The Corsair MP600 Mini, not to be confused with the MP600 CORE Mini (QLC).

Pretty poop hard drives!
Bought two vs the hynix and they act up always
2230 drives aren't known for their performance, just their physical compatibility in constrained spaces.

Not necessarily a deal breaker, but I was disappointed after I bought this for my ROG Ally to find out it doesn't have DRAM. Took the Win11 24h2 update and been seeing a lot of blue screens.

There is no 2230 SSD with DRAM. If you want a DRAM SSD For Ally, you'll need to look into purchasing a 2230 to 2280 right angle adapter (look it up on YouTube, it's easy to install).

Thank you so much for this info. I didn't know there was a diff between off the shelf SSD and what M4 macmini uses. On Reddit, I had posted a similar question and one person replied, stating using the sandisk and was loving it. After reading that, I started shopping and saw this post. Now, after seeing your comments, I will only focus on the two companies selling the SSD kit for M4.
The aftermarket Mac mini drives are using ssds from either SanDisk or Toshiba so this is likely what they were referring to. It is possible but requires tools and some technical prowess and has considerable risk to buy a drive solder out the SSD from your Mac mini and solder your new one in, this is more or less how they make these aftermarket drives. You can find the 2TB SanDisk Mac mini one for under 200 at AliExpress. (Toshiba is more expensive for some reason).

Why get this over the MP600 Mini for $150? Also TLC with a newer controller.
Easy. WD's Black SN770M is guaranteed for up to 1200TBW while Corsair's MP600 Mini is only guaranteed up to 450TBW.

Check the specs and decide based on your use-case.

I got this thing at the same price in the black Friday sale from Sandisk's website. It ended up being cheaper as I went through a CB site. I read at the time here that you can get it for c. $115 (or something like that) from Aliexpress if you don't care about the warranty.

I put it in my Surface Pro 9 i7 16GB, (256GB OEM drive) in Jan 2025. The SP 9 runs it as a Gen 3 drive (as opposed to Gen 4). It's still very fast, and very stable. I have had exactly zero BSODs. Maybe not the cheapest drive, but it's good in my experience. Search Reddit / other forums to see people's experience with it in your device.

There's no soldering necessary to replace the hard drive on the M4 Mac Mini.

Seems pricey now that YMTC a major NAND supplier has started to challenge Samsung and Sk Hynix. Chinese vendors are selling similar sized cards in this form factor in Shenzhen for $70. A premium brand like WD is at most is 20-30% more.
