EDIT: Seems like it's now back down to only 25%, unfortunately. If you still get the 50% pricing after clicking through, post in the comments with any tips for reproducing!

The link below claims to offer a 25% discount on all TaxAct products. When I clicked through, however, the actual prices listed are 50% off - even though the banner above them still says 25% off.

I opened a return this way, and the "Return Details" page appears to indicate that I will be getting that 50% off price after all.

Hope it works for you all!

So far as I can tell, you don't actually need to check out with a Visa card either.

I am seeing 25% off prices, not 50%.

For example, Deluxe is $41 and Premier is $71.

Darn. Going through this link I got Premier for 50% off ($47.50 - see screenshot). You're right though, I see only 25% off when I return now. It seems like they fixed the glitch.

The link is still good for anyone who wants 25% off, so I've revised the post title.

any way to apply this to an existing return? I have everything filed out already and seems like it only works if I start a new return

Bad software. It doesn't calculate certain schedules properly. Also they increase their prices as you get closer to the filing deadline, so this may have been 25% at one point, but it doesn't lock in your pricing until you file, which is scammy.

Switched to FreeTaxUSA this year and my returns were much easier, much more transparent, and a fraction of the cost. Switching was VERY easy as well, it just scans your prior year return and pulls over 99% of the info. Data entry in FTUSA is highly automated as well where you just upload PDFs of your documents. Very quick, so easier than legacy products like this one.

I have bought TAXACT at 50% off for TAX YEARS 2023 AND 2024. i bought it last sep/oct 2024. How do i now apply the discount towards my TAXACT. I filed 2024 tax return extension.
What is the rule for TAXACT. when is best time to purchase?

I concur, it only works with new tax return. Such a pain to go through all investments statements and other things. This is something TAX companies know well and take advantage of filers.
