Posts like this should not hold much weight for sway. This person could have tested hundreds of sets of clubs and be an expert fitter, but without any kid of reasoning behind the opinion, it just sounds slanderous and arrogant.

Unfortunately, there may be beginners who are considering a set like this to help get into a great hobby, but are turned away because of opinions like this one. Then they end up spending more money on the sport, and get frustrated.

Be classy SlickDeal peeps.
I think the Callaway Edge set is better.

Find one on Callaway pre-owned
I have this and Callaway Edge. I brought Stix Play version for around $600 at their website 2 years ago and I think it's pretty good. For beginners, I think it's a money saver.

I'm just curious what made you think it's a garage set? Nothing against on your comment. just want to know.

Only thing that I didn't like was, it didn't come with a cover.

Im a beginner and both the Stix and Callaway Edge I have is about the same (at least for me lol)

The big difference between this and a set like Callaway Edge is that when you graduate to a better set of clubs you're going to have to sell the stix set for pennies on the dollar where at least Callaway you'll be able to sell it to another newbie for 50% of what you bought it for. Also look up people's experiences with warranties for stix clubs. Better hope you never have an issue with their clubs.

Additionally, the putter in Callaway Edge is way better than stix and its the most important club in the bag.

Resale value is definitely important to consider for a lot of folks. As are potential warrany issues.

Thank you for a thoughtful and helpful post! 😀

It might even be more accurate to say that many/most golfers will never even outgrow the callaway edge set. It's a pretty solid set, after all, and most golfers aren't great golfers.

If you make the ball on your first shot then you don't even need the putter

The Stix set is just fine for those needing a new set with nearly everything to get started. Yes the Edge putter is better and Callaway is a more well known brand, but it's the player that determines the outcome most of the time in golf. If you're patient and adaptable, you can make most gear work out for you. Just gotta hit those buckets to get the duckets!

Thank you! Guess I'll hold out for that set then potentially for when it goes on sale.

Honestly the total cost of golf overall (green and range fees, lessons, equipment, balls etc) is enough that waiting for a small saving doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Also my recollection was that the graphite shaft didn't go on sale, and many new golfers would benefit from graphite shafts.

As a beginner this set is enough to get you into the game. Golf is a hard game, and in the beginning you will struggle.Get a cheap set, get a few lessons, go out to the range and hit some balls.
You said what I think are the magic words for beginners - get a few lessons. They really are beneficial for players of all skill levels, and especially for beginners who can sometimes improve drastically with a few tweaks from a trained eye. A lot of people are hesitant to spend the money on a little time with a pro but will throw outrageous sums at clubs that aren't even right for them. Practice and repetition are esseni, but you can't fix what you don't know you're doing wrong.

Sounds a lot different than a "garbage set"
