2. it is illegal to transport them after refilling. take that for what you will. one of those rules that no one would actually follow, but could get you in trouble... i guess, somehow?
3. they wont be 100% full. in my experience, the best ive gotten is 2/3s. and thats with freezing the refill bottles, and all the other tricks.
if you are going to be going through a lot of these, i recommend investing in a kit that includes bottles that are designed to be refilled. mr heater sells one called fuel keg, and flame king also makes a kit. i the process is so much easier... no need to freeze bottles, etc, and no worries about leaks or traveling. AND, you get a full 1lb of propane. they last as long, if not longer than a prefilled disposable one.
im very happy to not be using the disposables any more. always felt bad being out in nature using a big wasteful disposable bottle.

For those that don't want to do the math and wonder if it's economical for them, somewhere around 16 disposable (@$3.33 ea) is the break even point vs buying the refill adapter ($24) and a tank ($16) + 16 refills (@$0.75 ea). That's assuming that you already have a 20 lb propane tank. You don't need the stand, I would consider buying more than one refillable though. Another thing to consider, these will be banned in California by 2028 and I read that other states may be doing the same. Not sure if that means the price of the refillables will drop in price, or increase though.

That said I like to keep a coleman or two on deck for situations/backups, so I'm in on this deal, thanks OP.
