These cards have an endurance rating. Meaning if you wrote the entire capacity of the card, and then overwrote it again, and continued to do this (like recording video to capacity then overwriting the oldest) this is just about the quickest way to burn out these cards.
Differently, if you write to it once, plop it in a gaming device, and only do small writes but mainly reads, that is much more gentle usage of the card and it would last a lot longer.

Wish I knew how good a deal it was I might have ordered an extra.
Copied a 400 GB file to it for a tiny backup to keep in a file box. It was plugged in to a cheap usb-c hub with a microsd slot. I think it was averaging about 90 mb/s, in case anyone was curious.

Side note: 512gb is probably way too much for a retro handheld, unless you're emulating more recent consoles (Gamecube, PS2, etc) a cheaper 128gb will be more than sufficient. To quote from a RetroGameCorps guide: "A 128GB card will allow you to load EVERY 8-bit and 16-bit game out there, just about all of the arcade games that work, and quite a few PS1, Dreamcast, PSP, and Sega CD games (those systems have the largest file sizes)"
