Wannabe photographer here. After quite a bit of research, I just could not get away from the almost universal recommendation to get the Sigma 18-50mm zoom for my new Sony camera. But all the reviews also talked about getting this lens for under $500, and everywhere I was looking was around $540. And that's *before* tax and shipping...

So although I'm not sure if this is a great deal, it certainly is better than any other option I could find.

I put in an offer at Green Toe. I started with 400 (I know--a lowball) and soon raised it to 450. Still nothing. In the last 4 hours of my offer, I raised it to $480 and it was accepted within the hour. Since this includes tax and shipping, I feel that this is easily the equivalent of getting this lens for under $450.

Just thought I would pass it on, in case anyone else was interested in this lens.

Last week they first offered me $529. The second time their counter offer was $515. I took it because I expected the price to go up soon. They have shipped the lens but not the A6700.

What price did you get for your A6700? I tried for one of those too, but no one bit at my lowball offer... Smilie

I paid $1180 for body only, but I have seen $1150 or $1200 before.

Is this for FF or APS-C sensor?

This is an excellent all around lens. You should also consider the Sigma prime trio. Especially the 56mm. Personally I've found myself using primes more because it really gives your pictures that extra oomph that cell phone cameras just can't capture.

The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN is an APS-C lens. You can tell from the DC designation. It would be DG if it's for full frame.

For better or worse, I already got a schmeck of Viltrox lenses (literally bought before I even bought a camera!), including the 13mm/1.4 for talking head, and both the 25/1.7 and 56/1.7 for low light or setup (portrait style) shots. I also got the "new version" of the kit lens on my ZV-E10 II, but everyone kept crappin' on it (the best I saw was "it ain't so bad..." hardly ringing praise!), so I figured I'd get the Sigma zoom as my "EDC" lens.

Indeed, that isn't even the totality of my excess with lenses, but I'll stop there. Big Grin

Given how new I am to this, and how many I already have, I guess I better learn how to take a photo or shoot a video now... Smilie

Well shucks. As you might see from my response above, I really don't need or want another 16-50 kit lens... But it seems like it hardly saves more than a few bucks to try for the body alone...

I saw another thread where someone got the A6700 w/ the 18-135 for $1300. But even that lens seems like an older mediocre model that won't ever be a "go-to" lens...

Aaaaaarghh...

Nice! Seems like you're all set Viltrox makes some nice glass. Especially for the price. Sony may have left us APS-C users at the fire station but at least we were adopted by some nice lens manufacturers like Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox. Yeah continuous gear research/collecting and forgetting to actually go out and take pictures is one of the pitfalls of the hobby. Check out Arthur R on YouTube. He's the best APS-C YouTuber out there. No hype. No bloated annoying videos. He's not yelling at the camera. Just solid work on introducing and giving his honest well thought out opinion on gear. Welcome to the hobby!

I'm a little leery buying this stuff like that. I am not sure how wide-spread the counterfeit issue is with these lenses, but considering some of the stupid low prices I've seen, I can hardly believe they are legit. Green Toe promises this is a new, actual Sigma lens from an authorized Sigma reseller, and I suppose that's worth something to me. But frankly, I couldn't find any deals on this lens close to me anyway, so the point is moot.

Excellent lens. It's almost always on my a6400.

Sony has an authorized retailers list: https://electronics.sony.com/retailers

The retailer is revealed after an offer has been accepted by one of the parties at Greentoe and the retailer reaches out.
