This is an awesome little light with very good battery life. Sometimes too bright.

One thing to note, the lamp assembly does get quite warm, although nothing to worry about

Harbor Fraud is becoming the new Sears. Their icon line of tools is actually very good.

They have really stepped up their game over the years.

How does this compare to a similar Braun light?
According to Gemini;

"Based on available information, here's a comparison of the Braun 500 lumen and Icon 800 lumen work lights:
Key Differences:
Lumen Output: The most significant difference is the brightness. The Icon boasts 800 lumens, while the Braun provides 500 lumens. This means the Icon will generally offer a brighter light output and potentially illuminate a larger area.
Light Functions: The Icon typically offers three light functions: a main COB LED light, a wide-area back light, and a flashlight beam (tip light). The Braun usually has a main wide-area light with high and low modes and a flashlight tip light.
Head Rotation: The Braun's LED head can often swivel 360° vertically and 180° horizontally, offering more versatile light placement. The Icon's head typically rotates 180°.
Replaceable Battery: Some sources indicate that the Braun has a replaceable 18650 battery, which is a significant advantage for long-term use. The Icon's battery is generally non-replaceable without more involved disassembly.
Build Quality and Feel: Some user reviews suggest the Icon has a better overall build quality and a more professional feel.
Folding Mechanism: While both are foldable, some users find the Icon folds more compactly and evenly, making it potentially better for pocket storage.
Price: The Braun is often less expensive than the Icon, especially when on sale.
Rear Light: The Icon has a dedicated wide-area back light, which the Braun typically lacks.
Switch: Some users prefer the click switch on the Braun over the Icon's switch.
Similarities:
LED Technology: Both lights use LED technology for efficient and bright illumination.
Rechargeable: Both are rechargeable via USB-C.
Magnetic Base: Both feature a magnetic base for hands-free operation on metal surfaces.
Foldable Design: Both fold for more compact storage.
Water Resistance: Both have some level of water resistance (Icon is often IPX4 rated).
Multiple Brightness Modes: Both typically offer high and low brightness settings to optimize battery life.

Which one should you choose?
Choose the Icon 800 lumen if: You prioritize maximum brightness, want a separate back light, prefer a potentially more robust build, and don't mind the non-replaceable battery and higher price.
Choose the Braun 500 lumen if: You prioritize a lower cost, the option for a replaceable battery, and a more versatile head rotation. The 500 lumens is still a decent amount of light for many tasks.
It's also worth considering current sale prices and personal preferences regarding the folding mechanism and switch feel. Some users on forums suggest that both are good lights, and the better choice often comes down to individual needs and budget."

Home Depot sells a same-style Husky brand light for $20. Not sure about differences in quality but they're very similar, worth looking into.

Model? Can't find anything similar on HD website

I looked at the Husky brand and in my opinion the Icon is much better.

Icon is Harbor Freight's top tier product line so quality is usually above par.

I broke one of these from a drop and immediately replaced it with the same model. The flip mechanism is limited on the Icon and I absolutely have to be able to flip and swivel the light. The only con against the Husky is the charging port not being usb-c. I buy the Braun light before the Icon. Function over form and the battery is replaceable. I rate them Braun>Husky>Icon.

I've had the Icon light for about a year and a half. I like it, but nearly every time I pull it out I find myself wishing it had a rotating head. Might have to try the Braun.

they should have made the battery a standard replaceable 18650 like the braun.

The braun for $13.99 during the parking lot sale was a steal.

Pay full price now and come back Friday return and rebuy?

No buy with your WF credit card that has price protection. Been the absolute best way for me to always get these HF deals. The workers always tell me "just so you know, you won't be able to return and rebuy this during the sale".

It's well-made but drives me insane they placed the small light in the most used location. The brightest light can only be used if the light is fully extended and if you need any angle small light only.
You shouldn't have to but .....you can do this ghetto hack on the light to correct that. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/E2vQKS5t9xA

Just don't drop it hard after 90 days because that how long the warranty lasts.

100% agree!
I have a boat load of laptop battery to quickly swap because I keep it on all the time when working on the car.

So.... this compares to the Harbor Freight Braun 500 Lumen light from March:
https://slickdeals.net/f/18104437-braun-500-lumen-led-rechargeable-magnetic-handheld-foldable-slim-bar-work-light-13-99-at-harbor-freight-parking-lot-sales-starts-march-7

Differences higlighted below:

Braun ($13.99)
  • Brilliant white LEDs for output up to 500 lumens
  • Convenient flashlight tip light option
  • Fully foldable for easy storage
  • Adjustable head can swivel 180° horizontally
  • Includes flashlight option
  • USB-C charging port
  • Magnetic base
  • Variable light modes: high and low
  • 18650 Li-Ion battery (easily replaced)

Icon: ($23.99)
  • Powerful COB LED light output for up to 800 lumens
  • Tip light provides visibility in confined spaces
  • Fully collapsible for compact storage
  • 180° rotating head for precise light placement
  • 3 light functions: COB LED light, wide-area back light, and flashlight beam
  • USB-C rechargeable
  • Magnetic base
  • IPX4 rated for water resistance
  • High and low modes for optimal battery life
  • 18650 Li-Ion battery (replaceable via disassembly of the light)

Sure, nobody has a time machine so it's not an either/or, but if you picked up a couple of the Braun lights in March, know that the Icon differs by having 800 lumens (vs 500), has two additional light functions and is IPX4 rated... for $10 more.

Edited to Add: Batteries are the same, but replacing them is different (see next post)

According to Reddit, the Icon does have a replaceable 18650 battery, you just have to disassemble the light to get at it - instructions are apparently in the manual that everyone will throw away. Lol.

https://www.reddit.com/r/harborfr...?rdt=32903

Edited to Add: Yup, battery is replaceable, just gotta tear the light apart:
1. Unplug Adaptor from Light.
2. Remove Screw from Screw Cap.
3. Pull Screw Cap out of opposite side.
4. Remove three more Screws
5. Gently pull top from bottom to seperate.
6. Separate top half exposing Circuit Board.
7. Disconnect Battery wires from Circuit Board.
8. Remove or Replace Battery

https://manuals.harborfreight.com...454805.pdf (page 3)
Image in the PDF ^ shows 18650 printed on the side of the battery, so that seems to track.

The Icon is clearly not designed for battery replacement, but if you kill the battery at least you -can- resurrect the light. The Braun design makes replacement a lot easier.
