Musician's Friend has the Schecter PT Pro electric guitar in transparent purple burst color for $499, with free shipping and 8% Musician's Friend rewards. Made in Indonesia.

The necks on these guitars are roasted maple and quite nice. If you like a T-style guitar with a harder sound (thanks to the dual humbuckers), this could be your instrument.

This is a Stupid Deal of the Day, so they can sell out quickly if popular.

  • Alder body with quilted maple top
  • Roasted maple neck
  • 22 frets
  • 14" radius
  • 25.5" scale
  • Thin "C" neck

  • Glow-in-the-dark side dot markers
  • Volume/tone (push-pull) controls
  • 3-way switching
  • Schecter USA Z-Plus pickups

I've never spent time with this particular set, but every set of Schecter USA pickups I've played are surprisingly good. A lot of guitar for the money here.

For $999 regular price they should have name brand pickups. Like Charvels, several others in that range. Looks like a nice deal at $499 though.

That's a good deal. The YouTube reviews are quite balanced and for $500, I'd say if you don't have an instrument, this would be a good investment.

I'd have bought it but I've got a Squier 1972 thinline that I've added Seymour Duncan's on and plan to add a push-pull pot for coil split. Its become my go to instrument.

But if I didn't have that, I'd have bought this in a heartbeat

I suppose name brand pickups have a certain cachet to it, but Schecter does include their own USA-made Z-Plus medium output pickups. On the flip side, I've never seen a recent Schecter with the roasted necks having fret sprout or some of the finish issues on some recent Charvel models. The PT Pro also has full binding, which is nice, and prevents against bumps and bruises on the edges.

It's interesting when a company doesn't know who it is. I say this slightly in jest, but why is there not a rounded heel on this guitar? I can't imagine a traditionalist alive that would look at a schecter and be like, "now that's a tele!!!" so why not give full access to the upper frets? Absolutely silly.

Anyway, Half-price Schecters are generally a good deal, especially if you find a keeper. I've moved along two Schecter's and have had to discount heavily to get them out the door. Both were good guitars, but funded other gear purchases with them.

I wondered why they didn't bring the body contours and rounded heel from the PT Special myself. That said, it's a PT Pro, so it's firmly in line with the regular Schecter PT models, even the USA ones. The rounded heel and contours seem to be what puts the "Special" in "PT Special".

Unrelated but do you have any opinions on the epiphone prophecy line? Looks like the cheapest way to get a "3 voice" Fishman which is their latest iteration, but I see a bunch on sale with broken necks and reviews with other QC issues. I also hate satin finishes and it looks very matte.
