Really depends on what you are using the battery for. The powerstack has a higher power output so on my more demanding tools like 4-1/2" saw and grinders, I have noticed less of a dropoff in performance over the regular 5 ah. However on things like lights and etc, it's really been about the same.

Most of the batteries use cylindrical batteries while the powerstack uses pouch type of batteries.

$10 per Ah is a good target for a traditional battery but this is a great deal for a high current Power Stack.

The brushless tools are the ones that benefit the most from the powerstack batteries. I have an older atomic drill/driver and just the 1.7ah powerstack comparing it with the 2ah regular battery, you'll see the difference right away.

5ah in a compact size that can deliver the equivalent power of about an 8ah. Pouch cells also run cooler so the battery will last about twice the lifespan of the standard cell batteries. If I didn't already have batteries coming out of my ears I'd pick one up. Solid deal.

It's higher current due to pouch cells with much wider tabbed internal connections.

The simplest way to put it in real-world terms is that your tool can hit harder. It won't make a different for an LED light but a tool that hits harder will also drain its 5Ah capacity faster than a traditional 5Ah battery. That sounds bad until you realize that it directly translates into more useful work in less time and the power delivery (current) is not going to trail off as much when you get below half the capacity.

It's the swelling that's a gamble on these down the road, only time will tell but I'm loving the 5 I got last year.

Really? I've had a 5ah battery for about 7 years. These havent been out nearly half that long.... how do you know they'll last 14 years?
