Have a cleaning company of 18 staff, we run sharks. Had 4 of these and they have been the worst of 4-5 model a of sharks we have ran.

Not terrible but seems to just kind of "fall apart".
Reddit is a joke. Just bots hired to shill like SD staff here and their junk posts for comission
Ok so what do we get instead ?

What do you recommend in this price range?

Honestly, this is a great vacuum. It is often criticized for not having parts or being repairable. Do you know how much parts and labor for vacuums cost? It's cheaper to buy a new one. Don't listen to the vacuum snobs on Reddit who turn bugs into features, like having to spend another $200 for a powered brush roll for a $900 vacuum. Like most gear subs, they're total snobs and those who have been around know what's up.

If you want it to last long, here's what you need to know:

1. Clean the sponge filter after each use, it tends to clog fast. It's washable and reusable. The main filter needs to be replaced every 3-6 months depending on the soiling and use.

2. Don't EVER pick up the following with this, or any other vacuum: baking soda (so fine it will pass through every filter and go straight into the motor), or shop floor dust (use a SHOP VAC, Rigid is a great and affordable brand).

3. Great for pet hair, multisurface basic cleanups that don't require chemical pretreat or an extractor. Honestly, Reddit has some kind of vendetta against Shark and carpet cleaners (they will literally tell you to buy the commercial grade carpet extractor and then start up a side hustle to pay for it). This has a completely sealed canister, HEPA filter, and double brush roll. If you want something more lightweight get the Stratos cordless that is also on sale.

I wouldn't buy a refurb Shark. Bought the Stratosphere and it died 4 months later. Now I'm looking at buying this one.

This man has the knowledge. And I totally agree with your take on the Reddit approach to vacuums. It's borderline nonsensical.

I had a navigator for 11 years and it was good til the hose started to split.
I skipped the rotator line that came after the navigator and got a vertex line from walmart when it was 150.
The vertex separates into a canister with a powered head. Nice for getting under most furniture and just for getting around. I think it's a clever design.

Hoover is the best I think for a home, dude I work with recommended it instead of Dyson but so far so good.
I have a couple Hoover tankless which are 10+ years old. They still run very well. Only major issues are the plastic they use in the body is pretty crappy thus don't expect stuff like accessory holders to last. The handles themselves are cheaply constructed. The hoses develop holes and must be rebuilt as direct replacements are basically impossible to find.

But what the hell, they're both running the original motors.

I agree with most of what you said, But I draw the line at Unserviceable. It's not true that minor parts cost a lot and much of these repairs are not terribly difficult. I rebuilt an entire Hoover from the ground up because my wife dropped it down a flight of stairs, destroying a section of the plastic body.

If Shark wants to make unrepairable vacuums, they're out. I think the hostility on Reddit really is stemming from that angle. Some of us repair things as much to keep it out of the garbage as to save money. I even bought similar Hoovers so even the filters are compatible with each other. 10 years plus and still cranking on the original motors.

I don't buy products Designed to be Disposable.

If you Google "shark replacement parts" you'll find plenty of options.

If you think about the economics of vacuums, I imagine the criticism against Shark stems in part from vacuum repair shops trying to charge repair fees that are more than the cost of the vacuum itself. Now, you don't have that problem with a $900 Miele.

Why are you not running a commercial vac like ProTeam or Sanitaire? Just curious. They are actually repairable.

The vendetta against Shark is justified. Vacuum parts for companies that encourage replacement (like Bissell) and repair are NOT expensive and it's pretty easy to do yourself. These aren't refrigerators. SharkNinja's business model is to make something with pretty good performance but no longevity.

Some vacuum repair shops don't even service Sharks because of how unworkable they are.

Actually, I repaired the refrigerator also, after rebuilding the Hoover. Some of us don't give up as easily as Shark wants us to.

I was thinking of LG compressor failure specifically.... but good for you! Always feels good to repair something.
