If you want it to last long, here's what you need to know:
1. Clean the sponge filter after each use, it tends to clog fast. It's washable and reusable. The main filter needs to be replaced every 3-6 months depending on the soiling and use.
2. Don't EVER pick up the following with this, or any other vacuum: baking soda (so fine it will pass through every filter and go straight into the motor), or shop floor dust (use a SHOP VAC, Rigid is a great and affordable brand).
3. Great for pet hair, multisurface basic cleanups that don't require chemical pretreat or an extractor. Honestly, Reddit has some kind of vendetta against Shark and carpet cleaners (they will literally tell you to buy the commercial grade carpet extractor and then start up a side hustle to pay for it). This has a completely sealed canister, HEPA filter, and double brush roll. If you want something more lightweight get the Stratos cordless that is also on sale.

I skipped the rotator line that came after the navigator and got a vertex line from walmart when it was 150.
The vertex separates into a canister with a powered head. Nice for getting under most furniture and just for getting around. I think it's a clever design.
But what the hell, they're both running the original motors.

If Shark wants to make unrepairable vacuums, they're out. I think the hostility on Reddit really is stemming from that angle. Some of us repair things as much to keep it out of the garbage as to save money. I even bought similar Hoovers so even the filters are compatible with each other. 10 years plus and still cranking on the original motors.
I don't buy products Designed to be Disposable.

If you think about the economics of vacuums, I imagine the criticism against Shark stems in part from vacuum repair shops trying to charge repair fees that are more than the cost of the vacuum itself. Now, you don't have that problem with a $900 Miele.
