Southwest still the cheapest with free first bag
And no cost using free points after getting credit card
I just started flying on Breeze - not only is it cheaper than anything out there (even if I have to pay a bag fee), for me...some of their direct flights are key points for me.... I will avoid airline hubs as much as I can in the future.

Heck, upgrading to 1st class seating on Breeze is the same price you pay for economy on American, United, or Delta...

Just wanted to put the good word out on them. I've never flown the horror shows of Spirt or the other cheap airlines...but Breeze is surprisingly great for a low-cost airline option!

I've been a H&R Block Fanboy for years - you could probably see my post history and see that.

BUT, this year, I was curious...and I also just wanted a 2nd look at my taxes and went ahead, after filing w/H&R Block, and created a fake profile on FreeTaxUSA and put in all of my financials in their website and was happy to know that both programs came up with the same amounts.

I don't have a overly complex return but I do have a bit beyond a simple return (i.e W2, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-R, 1099-B, including figuring out the exemption of US Treasury returns for State income tax purposes).

The state numbers were also the same w/both programs...and I have complex state issues because of military pay with certain military income exempted.

So, while I will probably continue to use H&R Block in the future...FreeTaxUSA seems really good for a large majority of the population.

For those who did the FreeTaxUSA and State filing....does FreeTaxUSA offer you the ability to print and mail in your State Tax return to avoid the e-file fee (as H&R Block does allow for printing/mailing).

The state fee with FTUSA is not an efile fee. It's an all in one fee for the state, which is why you can't see the state forms until you pay. You could mail it after paying if you want or need to. You can always see federal forms because there's no charge for that.

Thanks for the further explanation.
At that point...it's probably just best for some to just hope that NewEgg (or someone else) to come up with a lower than $20 H&R Block...

As they say though, "Hope in one hand and sh*t in the other. See which one fills up first!"

You'll pay a lot more for H&R Block online software!
I was afraid of that.

The famous two things:
1) If your state has an online filing portal, you can see the summary for the state submission on FTUSA and input those numbers on your state's website. It's extra work, but this is SD - walk a mile to save a dime.
2) I also wanted to give a shout out to Allegiant. Usually on time. No frills. Goes to underserved destinations where I have family without a layover. And, because they fly to smaller airports (at least one of the destinations is smaller), waiting in line for security is a joke.

I tried to use the truly(?) FREE directfile.irs.gov -- a bit of a pain to setup id.me -- but they did NOT allow for 1099-DIV. :-(
Hopefully, they will next year.

Unfortunately, FreeTaxUSA, with the lower max income limit, seems like an IRS/business partnership, where the state part is not free?

I have been an H&R Block user for 10+ years after switching from TurboTax. I went ahead and have almost finished using FTUSA. I was able to enter all my rental house income and even do the depreciation of assets placed into service from years past. I checked it against my 2023 HRBlock official return plus worksheets, and it seems to be on target. Hoping to finish the federal inputs tonight and deal with the state stuff over the weekend. But overall, FTUSA seems smoother than HRBlock.
Thanks.
Is FTUSA really free? Or do they charge for the state part? Or eFile? etc?

Did you consider using directfile.irs.gov? (higher income limit, but no 1099-DIV, etc)

Also long time H&R guy but trying FTUSA, Easy to do my Mom's and daughter's. Their state returns were easy but I compared them with the state's online versions. I could not get my Mom's to match but I blame the complexity of the state efile site...it's as if they are lobbied by these tax companies, accountants, etc to keep it from being simple. Total scam. I went ahead and filed my Mom's through the state site as it gave her a bigger refund. My own taxes will be harder so will start tomorow.

FreeTaxUSA has an income limit on their IRS free file product, which is free federal and state. They have no limits on their regular product, which is free federal and $15 state. The state fee includes efile.

If you want 100% free federal and state, without an income limit, Cash App Taxes is the only option. It will do 1099-DIV and all kinds of other stuff. It does have a few limitations, the most common of which is no multi state filing.

You could potentially use a free federal option and then file your state directly on their website (if available) or the old fashioned pen and paper method.

I am interested in buying 1 download (Fed + State) by 4/11/25, 11:00 AM.
If there isn't seller by 4/11/25, 11:00 AM, then I will buy from newegg.com and I will have 4 downloads available for sale. I need to file only 1 Fed tax return.

I used HR Block Business this year because CashApp doesn't handle K1's yet, and it feels like the app is from the nineties. Horrible UX/UI.
I bought my license on eBay and it was much cheaper.

Tried out FreeTaxUSA this year since H&R Block wouldn't budge on the price. Never going back... Got the same return numbers between FreeTaxUSA and CashApp Taxes.

The one thing that stopped me in the past was the lack of brokerage import. However, I like that FreeTaxUSA lets you enter summary totals and then upload statements for your non-covered stock transactions. Doing this was faster than H&R Block's import feature and having to click through and verify each transaction.

Exactly this, I did the same this year as well
