10W30 brings up the high mileage version, which not every car, including high mileage ones, needs. If the seals are in good shape and there's not significant piston or ring wear, you don't need it, and it could actually harm the seals if so. Also, Walmart's full synth Supertech house brand is under $19 per 5 gal bottle.

I've got some bad advice with actual usage. I change the oil in my wife's Impreza once a year around this time when it gets warm out. I paid attention to mileage for the first few years and sent the oil to Blackstone and they said it's good. Was between 12,000 and 15,000 miles each time. Now I think the car has over 120,000 miles but not real sure and it still runs good. I use Mobil 1 oil and filters because I figure hopefully some good stuff will last if I'm not going to change it out often.
