Nioh 2 was the only game in recent years that made me want to purchase the DLC/expansions (which i did). The weapon customization is better and also variant of enemies in Nioh 2 vs Nioh 1. Fun times especially with random online encounters. One of the greatest of it's genre.
To know the full story get both, but only getting 2 is OK, won't let you feel the story is incomplete
I played through a couple bosses in Nioh 1 and just never went back to it for some reason. I beat Nioh 2, though. I didn't feel like I was missing anything by not finishing the first. The second is much better as far as gameplay, anyways.

I liked the parts of Nioh 1 where I wasn't staring at my inventory, trying to figure out which of my 15 purple leg armors were actually useful to me based on the 4-7 weirdly specific stat bonuses on each one.
