$189.00 plus Allstate Warranties offered in the listing. ALERT: THIS UNIT IS A NON-INVERTER SINGLE HOSE, NOT DUAL.

I just bought the restored 12,000 BTU white Midea Duo for $222.00 thanks to seeing a Slickdeal listing. But it had no warranties offered in the listing. I bought a 3 year separately, but was not sure it would be considered eligible. This unit has the Allstate warranties offered in the listing.

To reiterate from my comment in the recent-ish thread on portable Midea Duo, anybody who spent some time in school studying thermodynamics understands single hose units are basically a scam. This one seems to fit the description.

My apologies, we have been having an ongoing discussion in another thread about possible warranty coverage of the formerly $222, now $249 refurbished 12,000 BTU Midea DUO, that I just received yesterday from Walmart. It had no warranties offered in the listing, but I bought one separately via Walmart.

I saw this offered below the above listing, WITH warranties offered in the listing, and was excited to post my first deal as a payback for finding my unit. I didn't realize it was a single hose.

g10ny I have indeed read your nearly identical post previously in the other thread. Despite your pompous posts, this unit might indeed be what someone with little money and a need to cool down their place (single hose be damned) might find meets their needs.

My father always called the refrigerator the "ice box", because that is what served he and his siblings needs growing up during the Depression. Get over yourself.

This is one of those situations where the poor pay more with less in return. Pompous or not, I would argue that it would be better to get a *real* AC unit than this one, even if you had to go into a bit of debt. But you do you.

These units certainly do work, they cool the room they are placed in nicely. Are they whole house coolers? Definitely not, but they do work. Not a scam. ❤️

Wait till you see the power bill. Extremely inefficient, stays on all the time or close to it to get any cooling done, and producing draught throughout the house, and not in a good way, by bringing all the hot air in your room - all on your penny-pinching dime.

Buy a legit AC unit even if it costs a little more upfront, it will cost you less and will serve you better down the road. This is still a scam.

I know you have found an issue you are certain about. The fact that everyone else already knows that portable, especially single hose air conditioners, are the least efficient type of a/c is apparently not going to stop you from pontificating on a consumer forum.

The tens of millions of portable units sold over the decades were a "scam" you repeatedly post hyperbolically. Trolling is fun huh, in a childish and immature kinda way? The fact that consumer dual hose technology is a relatively recent development means nothing! Anyone that buys a single hose unit now, no matter the price, is stupid, unSlick, and never studied thermal dynamics in school! And don't even get me started on those still driving cars without continuously variable transmissions! What suckers!

Nobody consumes like g10ny! He does his research! Nothing but the latest and greatest, money be damned! But I guess this is just you doing you. Like they say, sometimes, you just have to let the ass bray.

single hose units cannot work nearly as well as two hose units. it's a physical impossibly for this unit to efficiently cool a room. it removes the air it just cooled, it creates negative pressure (pulling in hot air from the rest of the house), and it has to work harder because there is more resistance so the motor will crap out sooner.

maybe you can modify it into a dual-hose, that will cost more money and won't look as nice as a readybuilt. save up a bit and keep your eyes out on a deal for a real AC. it's only going to get hotter.

Wirecutter which has a decent reputation for honest thorough reviews doesn't really agree. Per their 2025 portable ac reviews

"All portable air conditioners have at least one large exhaust hose that must vent out through your window, and some have two. In most situations, the number of hoses doesn't have a huge impact on performance, so we didn't factor it into our decision making; any efficiency lost or gained by an extra or missing hose should be factored into the SACC rating, anyway."

okay, I don't trust everyone who has an opinion. I do trust mechanical engineers who took heat transfer courses and did their masters thesis on allotropic and polyamorphic solid-state phase-changing. oh look, it's me.

these single hose units are drastically worse, that's physics. you can have all the opinions you want, but physics doesn't deal in opinions.

I'll trust random internet dudes on which blu ray player to buy maybe, I don't think they are specialists in heat transfer. cherry pick one review, I'm all for it, but at least include the 99 reviews stating facts.

Dual hose pulls outside air to cool the compressor then blows it back outside. Single host sucks air out of the room being cooled to cool the compressor then blows it back outside. Less efficient and creates negative pressure.

I do find it interesting however, that when a car AC's recirculation mode is activated, which stops fresh outside air from entering the vehicle, cooling efficiency increases and interior temerature decreases. 😎
