The LVP you'll find off the shelf at Home Depot, Lowes, Floor & Decor, and other big box stores are going to be mostly garbage. This one in particular has a 6 mil wear layer, which is awful. Don't touch anything with less than a 10 mil wear layer, otherwise it will scratch like crazy. Yes, you will have to spend double the price shown here or more, but it will last 20+ years rather than less than 10.

Around two years ago, we found a local store which had samples of the brands we were looking for so we could see how they looked in our home. We ended up with a Doma brand with a 20 mil wear layer, 5mm thickness, stone composite, in the range of $4.25/sqft delivered to our house (you want this stuff delivered, too, it's heavy). No pops, holding up against scratches like a champ, looks beautiful. This is just above a mid-range brand, with some more expensive ones being Proximity Mills and Canopy Floors.

If those are a bit too pricey, I understand. A good compromise on price and quality can be found with Armstrong, Karndean, and Mohawk. The brand is not the only factor, keep an eye on total thickness, wear layer, and warranty. Wood composites will want to be slightly thicker than what I bought, ideally 7mm thick, and it will be a bit softer to walk on. Stone composites are firmer and more durable, and are good at 5 mm thick (I wouldn't go any lower). Aim for a 20 mil wear layer if possible.

Or you can be like my buddy that bought his LVP on a whim from Home Depot, had to take two trips because his truck couldn't handle the total weight of them, and one year in they're already popping and showing deep scratches. He paid like $2.50/sqft for this experience in a smaller space with way flatter subfloors. You do you.

well said - almost bought something from lowes then called the building supply company an hour away but always solid pricing. they had extra Cortec from a job that got overordered and sold it to me for 3.50 sq ft. couldn't be happier.
