Looks like the same kit is $199 at Ace. Is this actually that good of a deal?

$187 for for string trimmer and forge battery & charger
$111 for hedge trimmer attachment.
Total $299
Return hedge trimmer for $111 and basically you paid $187 for the string trimmer, forge battery and charger.
Pretty good hack

The link in the OP, that is a 'spring black friday' deal that doesn't seem to separate the products to do the hack.
I tried putting a link but either HD or SD is changing it, it's below.. if it still doesn't work, click on the product name to go to the "correct" page. In my attachments, hover and click on the area in the yellow circle.

You want it like "free gift with purchase" picture attached, not the other way where there is a pulldown menu for the free item

Model # 3016-21ST

The Ace Hardware one I got back in September was Mfr # 2825-21ST.

The lower numbered model (probably previous version) I returned immediately to Ace because it shook really bad out of the box. A lot of reviews said the same and it had failing issues. Staying away from Milwaukee outdoor quik lok tools for a while. There are still Makita clearance in some stores. I love my other Milwaukee power tools. Maybe they fixed the issues with this model.

This was helpful and similar to my experience, but I also wanted to add that the balance of this model Milwaukee trimmer is off to, I ended up getting the Makita on clearance my wife likes it more than the Milwaukee

Can this use a 12-14" brush cutter blade or is it still the pansy 8" blade?

Why's that? For people already heavily invested in the m18/m12 platform, these tools are exceptional. Sure ego is good too, but My Milwaukee stuff even kicks ass on 3 country acres of grass and weeds. Never thought for a minute it would be good, but got the weed whacker on a whim and it's amazing and battery usually lasts for everything I need to do, unless hitting some super heavy weeds.

One reason is because the best deals on Ego with battery and charger, when you factor in total watt hours of battery, are cheaper than Milwaukee. The performance of most Ego tools is better than Milwaukees. Heck, Ego's panel light is 10000 lumens. Milwaukee's is 4500. It's a huge difference.

Also, all your 5 ah and smaller batteries aren't going to work on Milwaukee OPT without possible overheating and battery contact melting. There goes about half of an average Milwaukee users battery arsenal that they can use.
