These speakers are surprisingly excellent. Unfortunately, Samsung seemed to put little-to-no effort into the app support and that aspect of these speakers is pointless. I would even go as far as to say that if you buy one of these, you would be just fine ignoring the fact that there is an app available to download. It is of almost no benefit and Samsung really dropped the ball on it.

I first purchased the MX-ST5CB/ZA (a Costco variant of these speakers that fell somewhere between the 40B and 50B models) about a year ago on woot! for just under $120 and was so impressed by it that I ended up selling it to a co-worker and investing in the MX-ST90B (the largest model speaker in this series). Both of these speakers were excellent. They produce excellent sound for music and, in my opinion, are nearly on par with JBL offerings. Unfortunately, Samsung made some amazing speakers but dropped the ball on the details of the products that would have put them over the top. The physical remote control implementation is awesome but the lack of quality app support is terrible. Three most annoying thing about these speakers, for me, was that they failed to allow the Bluetooth pairing to auto-connect to my devices when the speaker is powered on. They require you to power the speaker on, go to your device Bluetooth settings, and manually connect to the speaker every dang time you want to use it. I can't think of many Bluetooth devices out there that take this approach and can't imagine why Samsung would have thought this would be a desirable feature. At the end of the day, I sold my MX-ST90B because it was just overkill with how we used speakers in the workplace. I got a JBL Partybox 110 around the holidays last year on sale for $200 and it is a much better investment for something that is easily portable, sounds great, and has great app support. If I didn't need to have the speaker be extremely portable (the JBL Partybox models have dual carrying handles that can accommodate a shoulder strap), I would be extremely happy to pick up 1-2 of these Samsung models at this price.

My MX-ST40B automatically paired with my and my gf's phones. There may have been a fluke in your model, or your phone.

Strange. I have a Samsung phone. The model I bought off woot was a refurb but came like it was brand new. I bought the ST90B brand new on Amazon and they both had the same connection style. Anyone I shared the connection with at work had the same experience with needing to manually connect to the speaker and they had iPhones. That's a pretty strange inconsistency to hear that yours auto connects and the two other models I owned would not. Maybe they changed something up with the Bluetooth implementation somewhere along in the manufacturing process.
