I can not understand these "relics" either. It boggles that people buy something that screams "poser" . why not buy a great playing guitar new, and then play it long enough that it has a "relic" look that you created through actual use. But then I like to keep my guitars looking pristine, by NOT playing them. Who's the poser? ME!
I have a Fender 1962 heavy relic Strat re-issue and it is one of the best guitars I have ever played. This is from a die-hard Les Paul player. I payed a similar discounted price and wouldn't sell or trade this for anything but a better playing and sounding original.
You guys act like this is new thing, relic guitars have been a thing for over a decade. Just like worn jeans, it is either your thing or not. Who cares what someone buys?

I have and love guitars worn by actual use, but I don't get the appeal of these artificial relics. But given how many folks do love them, I'm clearly missing something.
It's like buying pre-distressed jeans imo. Different strokes, but not my thing. I like a guitar that has been through some shit if it looks like it has.

I love the look of relic guitars but when buying a guitar in this price range you are buying something to be passed on to the next generation along with the stories of wear and tear. This isn't the same as a $30 pair of distressed jeans you will wear for maybe 2 years. Music is art and guitar wear is something to be earned.

Imagine paying thousands to get a new guitar that looks like shit because you want to pretend and have people think it's been heavily used. Cringe.
It's not even like it's Jimmy Hendrix's long long guitar he bought when he did a paper round. It's a beat up guitar that was sitting in a closet because some average Joe bought a better version. Now in 2025 you can buy this "vintage" (worn out) guitar and show off.

Exactly, music is art. Guitar is just a tool. I doubt any of the guitar greats cares about how it look.

Even if you go to a vintage guitar shop, you rarely see guitars that are this grimy and worn-out looking. The reason they make them look so unnaturally dirty is because just a little wear and tear isn't enough to create that truly authentic vintage vibe. So ugly.
Just go buy a Fender Vintera Stratocaster, tie it to the back bumper of your car, and drag it around for an afternoon. POOF! Same thing for half the price!

I have a 1965 Journeyman Relic Custom Shop Stratocaster. I was never interested in playing or owning a relic guitar before I had the opportunity to get mine, but now I totally appreciate the value in relic-ing. The wear on the guitar, as well as the custom shop quality in general, just makes me want to play. I'm not so worried about getting a scratch on it and keeping it "mint" in the case all the time. It seems strange but it's inspiring. Also, I can't say enough about the Fender Custom Shop quality. The attention to detail is really awesome.

I see this turning like TripAdvisor, a lot of paid comments all around. But you shop what you shop.

Seems I've been out of guitars for awhile and Strats quadrupled in price.

Somebody should air a reality TV kind of show where teams of musicians and artists compete to see who can do the best job of relic'ing a top quality guitar.

I would watch.

They call these relic'd? None of the pictures show any joint or cigarette burns on the headstock.
