I can not understand these "relics" either. It boggles that people buy something that screams "poser" . why not buy a great playing guitar new, and then play it long enough that it has a "relic" look that you created through actual use. But then I like to keep my guitars looking pristine, by NOT playing them. Who's the poser? ME!
I have a Fender 1962 heavy relic Strat re-issue and it is one of the best guitars I have ever played. This is from a die-hard Les Paul player. I payed a similar discounted price and wouldn't sell or trade this for anything but a better playing and sounding original.
You guys act like this is new thing, relic guitars have been a thing for over a decade. Just like worn jeans, it is either your thing or not. Who cares what someone buys?

So tempting knowing that I could get my money back on the used market if I don't like it

Even if you go to a vintage guitar shop, you rarely see guitars that are this grimy and worn-out looking. The reason they make them look so unnaturally dirty is because just a little wear and tear isn't enough to create that truly authentic vintage vibe. So ugly.

Not grimy, this is how nitrocellulose ages badly if you keep your guitar open in a salt water acidic environment lets say near an ocean coast. In addition nitro will wear from constant rubbing against clothing. Whats Ugly to you might be Beautiful to someone else. I have a heavily relic'd guitar and it is gorgeous.

Imagine paying thousands to get a new guitar that looks like shit because you want to pretend and have people think it's been heavily used. Cringe.

This is just an expensive background prop for zoom calls from their tacky, suburban WFH office setup.
"Oh that? Yeah. I play a little gee-tar...have you seen the Golden Goose sneakers?"

I have and love guitars worn by actual use, but I don't get the appeal of these artificial relics. But given how many folks do love them, I'm clearly missing something.

That guitar and I, we've been through some things.

First was getting the wife to OK it. Man, that was a fight, She didn't understand the "new, but looks abused" part. I don't know what she has against authenticity.

Then the UPS guy just leaned the box up against the door on a hot summer day. You can't imagine how nervous I was that some damage may have occurred. I filmed the unboxing ceremony from two camera angles. I showed it to the guys that used to be my friends. They didn't say anything or respond to my repeated texts.

I've been playing this guitar like a madman the last two years. At least 5-10 minutes at a crack, sometimes as much as twice a week. It's just dripping with tone.

I did have a bad moment. My toddler knocked it off the guitar stand because she doesn't respect artistic implements. At first I had trouble remembering which finish gouge was authentic and which she f(#&*ing put on MY guitar. I'm going to send this thing into a skilled repair shop that restores vintage instruments to get the mar fixed.

I've been talking to some other guys on FB. We're going to get a band together. Some of them have amps, which they said that maybe I could use when we practice. We're all lead guitarists by nature and training, so we're going to have to see who's going to settle for holding down the rhythm section. I purposely only know two chords, just to make the argument that my lead chops are far better. They're the focus of my studio recording sessions, after all.

They should make them like raw denim, which patinas on its own and naturally by not being prewashed. It would be far better than this relic stuff.

FYI, I know you don't ride your 2022 Harley Davidson Road King much neither, but don't worry.
My wife's boyfriend said it'll only appreciate in value. He's badass and has two amps!

Kidding? Definitely a slickā„¢ deal. Would've been a mistake to buy at retail, but $1600 in marketing discounts makes it more approachable for a bargain hunter site.🤔
