I'm 43 and have had this same dilemma with my wife on socks… For daily wear, I prefer wool or even cotton, she likes synthetic heavy blends. She's also a runner though and I'm not.
I'm with you on this too. Mostly prefer cotton because of the feel on my feet and the fact that my feet sweat with a heavy blent (thinking about Bombas) but regular socks with something like 85% cotton don't do it as much.
As mentioned above, for a shirt to actually do sports in or anything involving sweating, pure cotton typically not as much a performer as a blend. Whether that's cooling, evaporating or form fit.
Got mine today.. 3x is a good fit but I'm sort of pudgy. Feels sort of synthetic but I haven't washed it yet. Feels lighter and thinner than my cotton so good for summer. And soft enuff for sleepwear,,,, I forgot about the microplastic part but I'm on a well so localized problem
