you mean someone who has zero interest in getting a good image. I was on the Bay of Banderas in PV, Mx a few weeks ago on a whale watching boat. Around 80% of the people had smartphones and the rest of us had our cameras of various kinds. Afterwards most of us got together at a restaurant for food, drink and to talk about our images. The cell phone people were sadly disappointed as they had the wrong tool for the job since no reach and no EVF and next to impossible to see the target on the screen in bright sun. One will never see a wildlife or sports photographer shooting with their smartphone. That said, they certainly have their place for capturing a shot. Sadly these people have no clue or don't care about editing. EDIT: that D7500 at $499. is a solid choice as there are many hundreds of lenses to use from Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, etc. and some like the DX-P Nikon lenses (lightweight and sharp) are are bargain that compete well against some that cost 2-3x more. Add in the 1.5x crop with the Nikon dslr APS-C sensor for that takes you out farther.
Yes, most ship out clean and nick free, but they do not come in retail boxes and cardboard. Mostly bubble wrapped in a white box. Units from my personal experience are very low shutter counts. I have never had a body with more than 100 shutter actuations.

Source: 2 lenses and 4 bodies in the past 3 years of refurb purchases.

Great deal for the Nikon Z30 + Kit lens (16-50mm) @ $399 if you could do without the EVF.

Still learning my camera.... What is an EVF and how important is it? I mostly take pics of my family and grandkids sports.

EVF is Electric View Finder. Old school DSLRs are just optical, newer cameras have digital screens in the view finder

Electronic View Finder. The screen that shows what you're shooting at.

Well dang. The sale a few weeks ago had the 70-200 2.8 at 1699. Now it's 1754. Guess I snoozed expecting a better deal, learned a lesson today.

EVF is the electronic viewfinder. Its a tiny screen that you look at through an eye piece to compose photos.
The Z30 does not have this, you look at the back screen to compose your photos.

This simplifies things but can also be a nightmare to nail focus if you're in a bright sunny day.
I literally just had this experience trying to get a shot with a 24-70 on a z30 and trying to track my kid. Luckily...the z30 has pretty decent autofocus but I was still shooting quite blind in terms of seeing if I'm getting things in focus.

Are Nikon refurbs basically equal to brand new? Much like Canon?

I had bought a refurbished z30 6 months back during similar sale. Camera had like 3 clicks shutter count. So pretty much brand new.

Without EVF, think of camera like your phone. You use the screen to take picture. EVF is the small windows you might have seen on profesional cameras where folks put their eye on to take pictures.
Hope this helps explain.

Tbh if the brightness is great, iPhone 16 pro max won't even stand a single chance in front of my R100, let alone my R8. I'm maybe not even a average person since I don't know how to adjust aperture

It's just that whenever the situation is no longer ideal, camera picture quality dropped so quick to phone level
