Good deal. I have this planer and bought at this same price. Despite adjusting the outfeed arms I still have a decent amount of snipe. I may think about upgrading to a helical blade at some point. I also bought the stand but I probably should've gotten a free nightstand from fb marketplace and stick some wheels on it for more storage. You can never have enough storage
It has been $100 less, more than once in the last few months. You can do a search on slick deals. You can also use camelcamelcamel to check amazon pricing. It's also the same price as the current deal at HD.

I didn't see the 735X at $499, but I was tempted by the Acme deal for the 735 at that price a month ir so ago. You'd still come out slight ahead if you bought the extension table and third party blades.
I got in on this deal at Home Depot a weekish ago, after deciding between a refurb Laguna PX12 ($450) and Wen spiral cutter planer ($407). Went with the 735X, since it still supposed to be the best.

$600 is a good price for this kit, with the extra blades and tables. It's been cheaper during holiday season but good luck finding it that price again any time soon. The tables are pretty much a must-have if you don't have some other means of infeed/outfeed guidance.
This tool takes a piece of wood and makes one side parallel to the other, and can thin the board to a target thickness. For smoothing out a rough cut board you want a jointer. This tool can do jointing but it's a bit more work and takes a jig to do a good job, google something like 'jointing on a planer' or 'jointing without a jointer' for more.
Basically you use the jointer to get one smooth flat face, use the planer to make the other face smooth and parallel, then use either the jointer or a few other means to make the edges flat and perpendicular to the faces. If this isn't something you expect to do much, it's a lot cheaper to just pay a shop to do it.
