Good lights - we have 3 of them with sets of keys. Much prefer the warmer high-CRI version though.

Good deal, unfortunately the coupon will not work on the other SC13 variants, like the 5000K version.

And a to-spec one at that. I'm so glad we're past the days of Ultrafire, Trustfire, etc cells that were a fraction of the stated capacity. The cells that used to come with some lights 15 years ago were absolutely terrible - they were worth recycling and nothing more.

even before those brands, there were worse ones on ebay.... back when tehy were $2-3 for cell 2800mah actually 1200mah, and good ones were $10-15

so, yes, i am glad the batteries are much more reliable now.

What makes this version better? Bought a SC13 when they were $10. Was pretty impressed, like it better than my Olight Baton4 especially for $10.

Those were exactly what the ultrafires and other *fires were...1/4 to 1/3 the capacity. Some ultrafire 18650 that came with a light as a "gift" was around 600mAh tested. I already had better 2200, 2600 and later protected 3100mAh cells so I never used the generics, and got rid of them quickly out of fear of quality issues/fires. But yeah, the unlabeled blue wraps and whatnot from china were the same useless capacity, or worse a 200-300mAh smaller cell wrapped in a larger cylinder, alongside some filler - I received one of those with some light around 2013. All around trash, until things like the LG HG2 and Samsung 30Q came out with capacity and good discharge capabilities!

I did purposely buy some Trustfire in 2013 or so - I think 14500 "Flames", for some light that could handle it, instead of weak NiMH AA cells.

When the Panasonic 3100mAh came out, I spent maybe $20/ea on them from a local person that added protection circuits (Callie's Kustoms). Those cells only did decent at under 3A...things are much better today. I still have them and they all work great today, with about 10% capacity loss since 2011.

ya, I go back with this to like 2006, when we used to open laptop packs and get nicer cells. But, overall, yes, it was a crapshoot and can never trust batteries. $20 is def not unreasonable at that time, cause you were worried about many other, more expensive problems, LOL.

i still have some panasonics 2900mah ones, I think?

Good thing about decent brands these days that they come with decent batteries and most have regulated voltage, so u dont even need protected cells since they will shutoff before cells are fully depleted (or start to blink), so ya, how much times have changed!

i havent done much in flashlights over the last 6-7 years, but I just got 3 new ones, and gifted older stuff to friends, just to enable myself to get new toys in, LOL.
