I enjoyed the first half of Sapiens part 1. He delves off into hard science in the 2nd half and he clearly doesn't understand what he's taking about. The author says that we will soon be able to load our consciousness into robots and live forever. There are many other ludicrous ideas presented as fact.

Here is a much better option from a history perspective for anyone interested in the topic.

The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity is a 2021 book by anthropologist David Graeber and archaeologist David Wengrow

Sapiens may be a good deal but it's a "just so" story akin to fairy tales where everything just works out and marches along because he decided what his goal was and wrote a story about all the stories that fit that narrative.

I'm going to read it just to study flaky people's minds.

For the love of god do not pollute your brain with this writer's text - in the first book he cannot separate his personal conjectures from established scientific consensus and presents them as the same without distinguishing for the reader - it is an absolute cesspool of quasi-scientific nonsense and someone not deeply read into this area will walk away with a confused view of the world where this guys pipe dreams are verified facts.
