powermatic 80 has 21,600 vph, not the original 28,800 from eta 2824-2, in order to have 80 hr power reserve

Weird! Maybe because it's easy to confuse it for VI since they're both upside down. Still seems wrong.

No one really knows apparently [mentalfloss.com]. Having said that, I personally prefer IIII over IV.

This is for the following reasons:

Since the dial inverts the Roman numerals it is to distinguish between 4 and 6 which consist of the same combination of numerals to avoid confusion.

For visual balance. It creates the same amount of characters across the vertical axis by creating 4 characters along the same inverted angle.

They didn't do the same for IX and XI.

While the correct notation for 4 is IV, Romans originally wrote their numbers based on the additive principle and signified 4 as IIII. The subtractive notation -IV- actually became the standard after the fall of the Roman Empire. Therefore, the Romans initially engraved IIII on many of their sundials and to signify the number 4. Thus, it is argued that this existing tradition was adopted and continued on mechanical clocks in Europe, when they were first created in the 13th century.

The description says 28,800, is that not correct?
