I do not think the price is the problem.

This bag is way too heavy and overly engineered. 4.2lbs.

Aer city pack pro comes in at 2.4 lbs

bellroy transit work pack comes in at 2.2 lbs
Man even at this price point it's overpriced. People over pay for backpacks. This price is probably where it should start.
Tumi at Sams Club are pretty ugly right now and run about $300. At this size Tumi are $600. This is bag is in the Aer price range... 20-30 Liter bags anymore are in the +$200 range. Yes you can get Amazon (China bags as cheap as $50. Also Walmart if your into lower end stuff. This is business/travel and very good quality.

My guess you guys also bye cheap Walmart underwear and complain about $10 underwear.

You can also look at Thule, Osprey etc and perhaps get a bag in the $100. range if you want to a HS backpack. Unfortunately when you get to better bags the real starting point is $150. and up.

Jansport also makes good stuff but doesn't fit into a business environment.

We also used to buy bags from E bags for $80. Those days are dead. Go Rucks are like $300.

Plenty of $75. Eddie Bauer or North Face stuff for you as well.

It is a matter of what you want I have a fair amount of the stuff I mentioned. However, in business world sometimes carrying a hiking bag just isn't the look you want or need.

Agree tho quality bags are $$$. Bang for buck this is a winner in quality and appearance and this sale only comes once or twice per year at Costco.

Have had this for 1.5ish years. Purchased in 2023. Best backpack i've ever owned for tech/travel as a mobile photographer.

Wait for a better price if possible. They always have random sales on CostcoNext during holidays. I got mine for $157.49+tax, so total was $172.44

Went down the rabbit hole with researching a nice business/weekender bag. Ended up getting this bag through Costco Direct figuring I can return it if it sucked or felt overpriced.

I love this bag. It looks great, has a bunch of storage pockets (mine also has a sunglass case), and it has the false bottom to protect your laptop.

I don't think I realized how having a nice bag like this helps to stay organized, especially when having to work hybrid.

Would the Linus tech tips commuter backpack be a comparable choice?

So I bought the NON-travel version of this bag, which seems to be the same external design/materials.It's a near-miss, IMO.I carry it daily, mostly because it ACTUALLY fits a 16" laptop that's not a Macbook. (Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i)It's also traveled with me for ~16 flights in the past 6 months.Daily carry is about 30lb. Travel carry is prob more like 45lb.It's still in VERY good shape with no tears or loose threads anywhere. The design.... definitely has a lot of thought put in, but also some little annoyances. It feels like they put hours and hours into the design, but not as much into field-testing.- Waterproof zippers take quite a while to break in around those convenient little curves at the top.- If you unzip the main pocket by a few inches (as intended by design) the main/front pocket zippers get in one-another's path all the time because they're so close. This is a constant annoyance because I almost never need to fully open either pocket.- The magnet flaps are neat, but haven't held shut reliably for quite a while now.- Bag quit sitting upright on its own in no time, but we can prob chalk that up to my unusual carry weight.- I have some qualms with the interior arrangement, but that doesn't apply here.Sorry to sound so negative, but I figured I'd just let Nomatic's ads relay the positives. tldr: Neat bag. Wouldn't buy it again. Intend to replace it, but I can deal with it for now.
How is the material. I read on some reviews that it scuffs easily.

Perhaps you should start a backpack company that sells the same quality for this price?

I was given this backpack as a gift and it is great. But I agree, it is way overpriced. Maybe worth $120...but I'm a cheapskate.

I'm not sure what the 'essential' part of this product is (in terms of what they reduced quality on vs. the regular one), but I used the regular one for several years and loved it + loved their customer service (very quickly shipped me a new one when mine ripped after heavy use). The only thing I would say is make sure this version has YKK zippers - the new versions of the regular travel pack do, but I'm not sure if this one does. The old version of the travel pack had non-YKK zippers and they are HORRIBLE, especially at this price point. Other than that it was a great bag.

Lol I don't know about bang for buck. . This is made in China, nothing wrong with that but I remember somone posting a clone of this bag for cheaper. Now THAT would be bang for buck. But if Nomatic is known for their warranty and you use it, then I guess that's something.

Got a link to the knockoff?

$180 for a backpack is crazy. You can find really nice backpacks for MUCH less. Easily half that.

Here is a $22 travel backpack from Amazon:

Not complaining about you wanting a discount on a premium product. I'm all about that- always hoping for my Mont Blanc deal alert to trigger. Just pointing out that your reference prices are all way way over what actual retail prices are, let alone slickdeals worthy deals prices. Also side note, I don't know why anyone would be paying more than $3 for underwear...

At this price point , you might as well buy an Airback which uses compression to vacuum and also has usb. Heard there are knockoffs on Ali express for $100 too

Had this bag and used it often for 5 years, from international travel, weekend travel, gym (like the flap pocket opening) can't recommend it enough buying another one as mine was stolen in europe (train). Was willing to try soemthing different but couldn't find anything as useful as sleek looking

I can't imagine carrying a vaccum sealed backpack that's doubly packed because of volume.

Review from the costco website, says it's a different version of the one from Nomad:

Quote :
This is a great travel backpack, but upon receiving it, I noticed it was missing many of the features listed for the Travel Pack on the Nomadic website. I contacted Nomatic to inquire as to why so much was missing, and they explained that this particular backpack ("Travel Pack Essential") is made specifically for Costco. Ultimately, I decided to return this travel pack, and buy the travel pack Nomatic sells on their website. It has several features that make it much better than the Costco version. Luckily, it is sold through Nomadic on "Costco Next", for about $45 more than this cheaper version. Well worth it to me. It's about $75 less on Costco Next, than buying it directly from the Nomatic website, so there is still a significant savings for Costco members!
