Tumi at Sams Club are pretty ugly right now and run about $300. At this size Tumi are $600. This is bag is in the Aer price range... 20-30 Liter bags anymore are in the +$200 range. Yes you can get Amazon (China bags as cheap as $50. Also Walmart if your into lower end stuff. This is business/travel and very good quality.
My guess you guys also bye cheap Walmart underwear and complain about $10 underwear.
You can also look at Thule, Osprey etc and perhaps get a bag in the $100. range if you want to a HS backpack. Unfortunately when you get to better bags the real starting point is $150. and up.
Jansport also makes good stuff but doesn't fit into a business environment.
We also used to buy bags from E bags for $80. Those days are dead. Go Rucks are like $300.
Plenty of $75. Eddie Bauer or North Face stuff for you as well.
It is a matter of what you want I have a fair amount of the stuff I mentioned. However, in business world sometimes carrying a hiking bag just isn't the look you want or need.
Agree tho quality bags are $$$. Bang for buck this is a winner in quality and appearance and this sale only comes once or twice per year at Costco.
I'm not saying a $50 Amazon/Walmart bag is better. But you will find a lot of bags in the $180-$200 range (starting price). Or even brands that are frequently on sale around this price (not just once a year sale). Of the same quality and aesthetic looks (for business/professional needs).
And I love the cliché it's poor quality because it's made in China. Do you know where majority of things consumers deem are great quality are made from? In this case since we're talking about them, some Tumi bags, Aer bags, and of though not China, Nomatic is made in the Philippines. I'm sure all of them are great quality. But that cliché about made in China, should really be stopped by people. It really comes down to the company that ensures that those manufacturers are meeting their quality mark.
Now I'm sure Nomatic is a brand that stands firm on their products. And googling does show they have Lifetime warranty + Costco's awesome satisfaction guaranteed return policy, may in fact make this a slick deal.
I'm glad we agree that "better bags" do start at $150 price point. Which I did say this bag should start at that range. (Shrugs). At a certain price point, like $150 for a backpack, you're already getting into high-quality materials and solid construction. Beyond that, the improvements in quality or functionality are minimal compared to how much more you're paying — that's diminishing returns.

Lol I don't know about bang for buck. . This is made in China, nothing wrong with that but I remember somone posting a clone of this bag for cheaper. Now THAT would be bang for buck. But if Nomatic is known for their warranty and you use it, then I guess that's something.

I mean sure, but not always. I scored a 40L tomtoc for sub $80. It's a fantastic quality bag with YKK zippers.
True there are sure there are some exceptions. Recently.
I ordered the Tumi from Sam's... Took them back. Just didn't like the looks.
They are great quality bags.
Heard Tomtoc are nice bags.
So many choices.
Some one asked above.... My son's college bag he's had for about a year.
They will mark up a bit but he wipes it down with water and skuff goes away.
I love that this is Costco so the return is easy if I don't like this version. His is the smaller bag.
Well, will that be of the same quality? Most likely, not... things made in China have many quality levels ag various price.points...
I like to think it came from the same factory lol. But no, logically speaking it wouldn't be. Might be the same material though I bet.

💯 Costco for the win
It's a near-miss, IMO.
I carry it daily, mostly because it ACTUALLY fits a 16" laptop that's not a Macbook. (Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i)
It's also traveled with me for ~16 flights in the past 6 months.
Daily carry is about 30lb. Travel carry is prob more like 45lb.
It's still in VERY good shape with no tears or loose threads anywhere.
The design.... definitely has a lot of thought put in, but also some little annoyances.
It feels like they put hours and hours into the design, but not as much into field-testing.
- Waterproof zippers take quite a while to break in around those convenient little curves at the top.
- If you unzip the main pocket by a few inches (as intended by design) the main/front pocket zippers get in one-another's path all the time because they're so close. This is a constant annoyance because I almost never need to fully open either pocket.
- The magnet flaps are neat, but haven't held shut reliably for quite a while now.
- Bag quit sitting upright on its own in no time, but we can prob chalk that up to my unusual carry weight.
- I have some qualms with the interior arrangement, but that doesn't apply here.
Sorry to sound so negative, but I figured I'd just let Nomatic's ads relay the positives.
tldr: Neat bag. Wouldn't buy it again. Intend to replace it, but I can deal with it for now.
