It's for real, but it's not a deal. Intel-based MacBooks are irrelevant at this point. No argument about it. If you have one, and it works for your needs, use it. But don't throw away money buying one at this point, no matter how cheap it seems to be.

Very true, there were 3 Intel gens after this. However, I'd definitely get the last Intel (2020) for $200, as a kid laptop .

ewaste. This is an 8 year old machine. Even in the Windows world, that's significantly old. In the Mac world, with the advent of the M-series chip, this machine is horribly outdated. 8gb of ram was barely OK even back then. And 128gb drive was a joke then, and it's doubly more now.

Take that $200, and put it towards the base model 13" M4 Macbook Air for $999 (or less, depending on sales). Yes, that's 5x more, but you'll get more than 5x the machine.

Or find a used M1 Air for ~$400.

You can get comparably aged 8th gen intel dell laptops for $100-150 with 16gb/512gb ssd. If you're going to go old, at least get decent specs. No reason to suffer twice over.
