Got the OLED model in December. It's great. Have Jak and Daxter running in OpenGoal on it and it's flawless. Then installed Heroic games launcher and have both GOG and Epic Games working
It could be, but it wont be $300!
Here come the "just wait, the Steam Deck 2 is right around the corner" comments.

First thing i did when i got mine, Heroic and added my amazon, GOG, epic library. Now i have 900 games ready to download and never play 🤣
I have been considering one of these since it's the best way to showcase all the games I never play as well.

Existing Switch 1 emulator code might be adaptable to Switch 2 relatively quickly.

Seeing how Nintendo shutdown the two biggest emulators out there a year or so ago I'd bet it's too close. They could have tried it several years ago.

I've got almost the same story. I'm a dad with 3 kids and it's totally changed gaming for me. So nice to be able to lay in bed next to the wife and play red dead. It's an absolutely amazing emulator device and basically made all my fun Chinese emulator handhelds worthless to me. I know it's a lot of money, but I think it's easily my favorite consumer electronics purchase in the past 10 years. I went back and forth on this and the ROG Ally, and I know technically this has less power that some of those other devices, but the construction and the feel is next level. I have only turned my gaming rig on (3090, 32GB of ram, and 7700x) once or twice since January. And yes, get the OLED. Looks insane. After owning this for 4 months, I can say 100% if they drop another device, I'll buy it day one.

There have been reports about Switch 2 using "the same tools and ROM format", which should give emulator developers a head start at least:

Nintendo hurt the emulation scene, but hopefully it will come back stronger after people learn that they can't get too comfortable and need to stay anonymous and decentralized.

Fellow Dad of 3 here. I purchased refurb 512gb OLED in December.

+1 amazing device that makes AAA "casual" and "mobile". Being able to "pause" do something and "resume" without having to hit a checkpoint is a game-changer.

I don't know how you got away with it, I had to return mine because my family was getting neglected. Need to convince wife and kids that I can practice responsible gaming.

I'm going to add some context to all the comments about the performance. The comments saying the steamdeck can play modern AAA games at 720p with low settings isn't really painting a realistic image. What you have to most likely do is use FSR Performance setting. FSR Performance uses a much lower resolution and upscales it to 720p. So is it technically playing some AAA games in 720p? Yes, but it's not native 720p and I can easily tell. And even then, it's barely acceptable to me. Don't take my word for it. Check out this video from Digital Foundry.

At the end of the day, I would never consider buying the Steamdeck to play modern AAA games. Even with the lowest of low settings, it doesn't feel acceptable to me. This is a great device to play non-graphically demanding games, older titles, indies, and emulation.

Yeah they put a dent in it but it has always bounced back. The first group was making money off Nintendo's work which is a big no no. The second group/guy was supposedly in a country with laws that made them safe from Nintendo. Rumors are Nintendo bought them out because they couldn't go after them legally.

I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't switch 2 games emulated by the end of the year.
