These seem like they could be a pretty great deal for a lighter base/mid layer for outdoor activities. The fabric blend includes merino wool, the half zip would help regulate heat, and I like the flexibility with the thumbhole sleeves. People also seem to think that the Ozark Trail products are good quality/value for the price.

They are really good. The blue one especially looks very nice & any fabric blended with merino is very versatile unless the weather is very humid. These are definitely very good buy for Spring, Fall, Cool weather.

I've bought 5 ozark trail soft shell jackets from previous sale, surprisingly decent. I like quarter zip pull overs I've bought tech type ones from 32 degrees, adidas and gap factory . If these are merino wool seems like upgrade in material

This product is specifically designed to provide light insulation and layering, including for outdoor activities where heat regulation and diminished absorbency/quick drying characteristics are quite important.

What fabric do you think it should use instead then?

At a cheap price, there's no other option. (mostly) Synthetic. Cotton holds moisture and that can and has killed people from hypothermia. It also just feels awful and clammy when sweaty.
