In the grand tradition of the Doom series, you can run this game at max settings on a microwave.
There should seriously be some kind of annual Gold Glove-style award for outstanding PC game optimization. Brought to you by Cooler Master or something.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Doom 2016 multiplayer was something special. Not really sure what it is, but I like 2016 better than Doom Eternal.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Doom 2016 multiplayer was something special. Not really sure what it is, but I like 2016 better than Doom Eternal.

Thanks. I was able to get it running via Lutris after installing a dll with winetricks.

I'm new to Linux gaming. When you say it runs well on Linux with Proton do you mean if purchase thru Steam or can you buy this on gog and play with Proton outside of Steam somehow?

Lutris defaults to GE-Proton. If it runs fine on Steam Proton in Linux, it will run just as fine with Lutris.

Newer version of Lutris allow you to install GOG-Galaxy 2.0 from Lutris itself, I don't believe this used to be the case. Galaxy 2.0 is a 1 click install, very simple. You should be able to easily install Doom 2016 from there, and play it. No extra setup should be necessary. Just launch galaxy 2.0 from lutris, login to your account, and install doom 2016. Hope this helps. Pro tip. Set the graphics api in doom to vulkan. I believe doom eternal is exclusively vulkan, but from what I recall doom 2016 defaults direct-x 12. You'll have a much better experience playing with the Vulkan api in the graphics settings.
