A small tip to anyone who is upgrading who all of a sudden cannot use the 4 finger multi tasking app switcher gesture properly without lag/delays. Turn off 3 finger zoom, it was interfering with the app switcher gesture

Too bad now the 4 finger gesture won't prevent the 5 finger discount …

The iPad os is terrible for things like Microsoft excel. We thought it could be a good laptop replacement. Maybe in some cases it is… but for us it is mostly an expensive iPad.

I can't speak to excel but my wife loves PowerPoint on this model.

That's her main use for this. (Netflix runs a close second though 🤣)

Sounds like there are some fairly big upgrades coming to iPad OS.. It's hard to say how much of a difference it will make but it sounded like it was getting closer to laptop functionality.

This thing still are too expensive for what it is. I don't think any iPad is worth over $1000 unless it can do more like running Mac app

What are folks' use cases for Ipad? I know some people use it for drawing but otherwise why not get MacBook Air at this price point?

Unless you have a net worth of over 5 million you should not be buying 1k ipads unless is for work.. Which I doubt
While I can understand where you are coming from eg 5-10% rule or in general spending guidance -

The idea that you need a $5 million net worth to justify a $1,000 iPad purchase is extremely conservative and prob out of line with mainstream financial advice. Such a guideline would suggest one spending only 0.02% of their net worth on a tablet, which is far more restrictive than even the most conservative financial experts recommend.

What if someone subjectively / objectively gains much more than $1000 in long term value but are worth even less than $50k?

Lol, yes...that take is absolutely ridiculous. Honestly, you can get a lot of enjoyment out of a tablet, and specifically the Pro models have the best features by far locked behind them. Using an iPad in 2025 without ProMotion for instance, is just ridiculous, and the Ultra Retina XDR screen is outstanding in comparison to any other models.

Yes, I understand that if you use something like an Air or regular iPad long enough, and not using it side by side with a Pro, you will eventually get used to it and it won't bother you...but I personally am tied to the Pro models, just for those two features, even though the equivalent sizes on the Pro are typically $400-$700 more than the Air or regular iPad.

Just my $0.02. Obviously, everyone has different monthly expenses, but you certainly don't need to have a multi-million-dollar net worth to justify an iPad purchase. If you need $5,000,000 net worth to justify a $1,000 iPad, what do you need, a $125,000,000 net worth to justify a $25,000 car purchase? LOL!

Bro The world figured out that tablets cannot be used as computers back by 2015... Every single business bought tablets and gave them out to their workforce and then a year or two later everyone was back to laptops.

I've had my 12.9 m2 for over a year. I'm waiting for it to die so I can upgrade to an oled. Might be a 10 year device since mine is permanently mounted to my headboard and doesn't leave the house. I might be dead by then.

The way I see it, if I get $1 per 1 hour of usage then that's good enough. So if you use the ipad for 500 hours and resell/trade in for $500, then that's a win in my book.
I spent $3k on a flagship TV, which costs more than my car. However, I use the TV a lot more so it was a good buy for me.
