Why all the thumbs down? Genuinely curious since I'm about to buy it.

Because MSRP on the 5070ti was supposed to be starting at $750, and while there's no founders edition of the 750ti, a lot of the third party partners who make the 3rd party cards raised prices immediately after the first few weeks of sales.

There are a lot of folks of the opinion that buying an item for more than it was originally announced for is not a deal, while others think that consumers should "boycott" these prices in the hopes that somehow demand is reduced enough to have an impact on those pricing the supply. These are probably the folks giving thumbs down.

This specific MSI Ventus has possibly gone up again from some vendors as it was $830 just two weeks ago...

If you're looking for a 750ti at the $750 MSRP, only the PNY 5070ti OC at Best Buy is still sold at that price and it has been popping in and out of stock over the last week and change. I managed to get one myself.

Use a site like nowinstock to track stock notifications if you're hunting for a deal on thess harder to find items.

Thank you so much, I had no idea! Just suddenly needed a new graphics card and couldn't find any in stock and I thought $899 was normal. You might've just saved me $150 so thank you again!
