They prefer to use the more conservative Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL) set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment because it is the most protective standard available. In 18 of the formulas we tested, the lead intake for the average 3-month-old would fall between 50 and 100 percent of the more conservative MADL limit."
