For gaming specifically I don't think anyone wants this particular processor. Think of this build as a $1500 GPU with a computer thrown in. Is the computer worth $750? Yup. Therein lies the deal.
You can't just drop that without explaining, haha.

Could you provide anything to support your claim? Besides your opinion, I doubt it. Picking the cheapest parts to match the specs on this build in pcpartpicker [pcpartpicker.com](matching prices at MC) you're not building this for less than $2600 right now, assuming you wait for the lowest end 5080 to reach the MSRP of 1000 ($400 cheaper than the lowest end 5080 at MC now) you are still paying $2200 for this build yourself, with an ebay $10 Win key, buying parts from all over and building it yourself. So this is pretty good deal if you want it now and slick if you stack the other deals mentioned throughout the thread (cb, AMEX, whatever else). Also, if orangeman stacks tariffs on parts, prices will not go down.
You're not wrong, but you fail to recognize that these people are not worth arguing with.

I have zero faith outside of winning the Nvidia Selection lottery of getting an MSRP 5090.

Hmmm...that KB article is for a firmware update to the OEM Samsung PM9F1 SSD. We put Samsung 990 PRO SSD's in the R16. I can't find the storage driver you reference. When I look at the Storage downloads for the R16, they are all firmware updates except for an old 2023 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver whose version doesn't reflect anything like you referenced. What is the name of the storage driver that you reference?

Thanks.
I have a Sammy 990 Pro 4TB drive in R16 (both from prior deals here),,and experienced the hard drive disappearing issues. Updated SSD firmware using Sammy's Magician software, and updated to latest BIOS with Dell's Assistant app. Did not fix the issue. Only way is to keep FULL PERFORMANCE MODE on the SSD to avoid the SSD from randomly disappearing.

Is "FULL PERFORMANCE MODE" a feature/function in the Samsung Magician software?
The firmware's (I have 2 990 Pro's in the R16) are current and so is the Dell BIOS.

This R16 is random but frequent (every day or so) just a spontaneous reboot (almost always when left alone, idle) and when it tries to boot up after a crash, it can't find a boot drive (so the Support Assist screen shows), and it just stays on that screen until you power down. Upon startup, it boots fine. Never had a problem booting normally, but when it crashes, it can't seem to find a drive to boot from again until a power cycle. This may be it! Willing to try that FULL PERFORMANCE MODE if you can please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Yes it is a feature within Samsung Magician. Click on "Performance Optimization" on the left, you can set the performance mode to "Full Performance Mode", which prevents SSD from going to sleep or idle state. Hit Apply and the change requires a restart.

I had the same issues you described with another 990 Pro (purchased new) that I RMA's. The replacement is working fine but only under the Full Perf. Mode. Think that whenever the SSD goes idle for too long or goes to sleep, the R16 just loses it requiring a power cycle to fix. Hope this helps - let me know if works on your end

I really appreciate the info and have found the setting in Samsung Magician. When enabling, there is a warning about this setting possibly causing higher temps during long term use. This R16 is on 24/7 -- any issues you've noticed with regards to high SSD temps or any reason not to do this? Could always just scrap the 990's and get Crucial or WD SSD's...just don't want to trade one issue for another.

This reminds me of another issue with Dell and a certain brand SSD (Nexstorage) I had a couple years ago. In Dell desktops (Inspiron, Optiplex and 2 different Alienware R13's) with this drive installed, the drive would disappear on a reboot and took a few cold boots to get it to luck into seeing the drive. It wasn't just a bad SSD...I had tried many new Nexstorage 1TB and 2TB NVMe SSD's and they all did it. Just even a warm reboot and POOF! -- drive gone. I finally stopped buying Nexstorage.

Thanks.

I have the factory installed heatsink from Samsung - temp. usually hovers between 40-50 C (idling in low 40's generally). Try it for a few days and see if the disappearing issues are fully addressed. You can also review temps under "Drive Dashboard" - by hour or daily.

If issues are fully fixed, you have the option to upgrade to a larger heatsink. Or just trust the 5 year warranty Smilie

Only thing I wish this had was have 4 RAM slots instead of 2. I was forced to get 48x2 GB as my program requires a lot of ram would've preferred 32x4 setup.

Thanks. Mine have the OEM heatsinks on them already. Appreciate your help and will definitely let you know the outcome, but i am very hopeful this is it!
