Brother printers setting- something changed

757 100 April 23, 2025 at 12:25 PM
Hi,
I have a Brother printer HL-L5200 DW laser printer. It has been great for years.

go.
I usually print on both sides of the paper or duplex printing.

I cant do it anymore using printing from goggle or amazon ( to print a receipt)

It does work for duplex if I print from MS word. But I notice the print dialog box is a little different. More normal from what I remember.
With Goggle or amazon I can see it is different.
Both have the same options and everything is checked for duplex printing. And the main box even tells me it will print on one sheet of papaer. If it is a 2 page invioce I am getting ready to print.
But it still actually prints on two seperate sheets.
Tech suppport did have me reinstall new drivers but makes not difference.

So application based printing works, but web based printing does not do the dbl sided printing.

In each case that it failed, were you using the same browser (Chrome both time or Edge both times)?

If so, then I'd try the other browser.

Hi, yes you were right.
I tried MS edge and it works fine.

Does this mean I am stuck with Edge if I want easy 2 sided printing.
Is there a fix for chrome. Which is what I am used to using. And it has worked fine for years. This all just started a week ago.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Also to add. All complaints I find on the web are with people that dont see the option for 2 sided printing in the dialog box. Mine does show that checks. And it even list up top
how many sheets of paper it will use. So for 2 pages it will list as going to use 1 sheet.
So everything looks right. But when I click print. It prints the 2 pages using 2 sheets of paper.

I think it may be a google Chrome issue. I've had similar issues and issues with Chrome not choosing the system default printer, which also started recently. There is a setting when printing in chrome to print on both sides under more settings. It may be remembering your last setting. You can also choose the option to print using the system print dialog.

In your system settings, you should be able to set whether or not duplex printing is the default.

Thanks again,
I do have everywhere set to duplex.

And I did just notice something else.

If I hit Ctrl and then P I get a box, that shows 2 sided printing is on. But it only prints 1 side.

But if I hold down Ctrl and the Shift key and then hit P I get the slightly different box and this one prints 2 sides. And on top line in this box it is listed as "Goggle Chrome-Print"

Very confusing.

In Chrome I can see the 2 sided option but if you choose more settings and go to the bottom you have the printer dialog box which should give you the duplex option.

After i click more setting I do see 2-sided printing but that is already checks.

If I click at the very bottom right. It opens a new print box. And it will work from there.
So with chrome I now have to click to print.
A print box opens
I have to click more settings
and then click bottom right
And then a new print box opens
This one will work. But I never had to have this many steps before just to print.

But at least can do all these steps now with holding down Ctrl and Shift keys and press P

If you're still troubleshooting I'd try disabling all add-ons you might have installed in Chrome.

Good to know that it still works in one browser and not the other, so start focusing on Chrome browser settings, etc.

Might even try a clean install of Chrome as a last resort (or maybe a first resort).

Tried turning off extension and next will try reinstall of chrome.
I will try to add some screen shots.

1. Is the box that comes up when I hit print as normal. That still prints with 2 seperate sheets.

2. Is the print box I get if I use crtl - shift - P and actually prints with just 1 sheet.

3. This pic is what I get when I press more setting from the #2 print box.

Do you have the printer set to print double sided by default?

try toggling the print on both sides option off and then back on. If that doesn't help, try turning it off, printing something, then turning it back on and printing something.

For #1, what do you mean when you hit print as normal? From what application? Explain the steps you take to get to the final step where you 'print as normal.'

For #2, same question. What application are you in when you hit ctrl-shift-P? Because that's nothing more than a keyboard shortcut to a menu item in any given program unless I'm misunderstanding you.

It's clearly a software issue, as it works in some cases and not in others. If you can be more clear with regards to exactly what applications or programs work it will help. I still feel like it's a Google Chrome issue but I'm having trouble following all of your details...

Usually with anything I pull up using Chrome. Trying not to switch to MS edge. But my test shows that I can print 2 sides from the same website like amazon.

Often I will go to amazon - view orders-view invoice. Then it shows the invoice with a line that states "Print this page for your records" I click and get the #1 above print box. But will only print 1 side of page.

It seems just about anything I print from a link in chrome.

If I click the same link in MS Edge. Then I get #2 print box above. And it does print 2 sides.

Yes, it does seem like a Chrome issuse. I have checked and triple checked every setting I could find in Chrome, Brothers software and installed new drivers and everything in Win 11.

Very odd that I get a different print box using a link on a website while using Chrome.

But then I get a slightly different print box ( that works the way it should). When I use MS Edge or when using Chrome, but only if I use ctrl - shift - P

Another note. With Chrome I get the good print box with ctrl- shift- P. BUT if I just use ctrl - P I get the bad print box.

So a difference if I include the shift key with chrome.

I know it makes no sense the way I am saying it is working. But this is the way it is working.
Thanks for any help. And let me know if I did not explain it very good.
