Seems like forking out the other $140 for the 14" pro model at $1399 seems like a better deal to me. Not only will you get a brighter, higher quality screen with 120hz, better speakers, an SD card slot and more ports, 6hr longer battery life, and better thermals under heavy use. The 15 inch MacBook Air never really made much sense to me. It's no longer about the portability at that point (0.1lb lighter) because if you were after that, you would just get the 13 inch version. And the price is so close to the 14 inch pro comparably specced ram/ssd.

1-2 years ago this price got you a new M2/M3 256GB and 8 GB RAM. I feel cheated!

If you compare both in person, the Air 15 is still more portable and has over 1" more screen space. The Pro doesn't make sense for me as a developer.

Best price was ~1.5mo ago where the Air 15 16gb/256gb were ~$1020. The 24gb/512gb version was ~$1360

That's kind of a somewhat a flawed logic. The 15 inch air has a resolution of 2880 x 1864. The 14 inch pro has 3024 x 1964 the screen real estate is actually greater on the pro despite the smaller screen. Scaling wise obviously the 15 inch looks larger, but what you can see without scrolling the pro you can see more.

Where's the person on a similar deal who said they bought this model, 16/512 for $950? I've never seen this at that price.

I believe Apple line the inside of their laptops with "Primacord" to deter DIYs.....

Due to Apple's overpricing, I'd never call a retail sale of an Apple product a "good deal", but a penny saved is a penny earned if you want to bite the Apple bullet. Any of these configurations "should" last you another 8yrs (I'd say closer to 5 given the recent advancements in tech)

Spoken like someone who's never touched an M series Mac. The M4 has faster single threaded performance than the 5700x3d in my gaming PC.

My M1/16GB MBA still runs like a dream with 8hr+ of battery. The base model M1/8GB I got my wife also runs great, despite what you read online from people who have never touched one.

On the contrary. Despite my opinion that their memory and storage upgrades are overpriced (which I'm sure is a shared opinion amongst many Apple users), I own several products, including M3 Pro. However, I admit the 5yr comment was not taking into account the original person's use case, and only factoring the tech at that future time being far superior and also being the standard end of support for security updates.

I think the best value for the M4 Air is the base model that's $999 (and often on sale for $899 or if you're government/education).

What are you trying to compare the difference between? If you mean between 13 and 15 of the Air, yeah I think it's just the screen size difference.
