I have this, it's nothing special. The black paint is peeling off. Honestly I'd rather get a glass or see-thru version so I can see how much water I'm adding into the kettle.

I have the black one and it somehow leaks water from the bottom (not boiling water though). It does heat up quick though so I still use it daily. The silver looks pretty ugly, silver on top, black plastic on base.

I bought a gooseneck with temperature setting and honestly there's no going back to these "dumb" water boilers. Never have to worry about burning my tongue with tea anymore.

IDK about that 100% cork handle.
Cork it's not very durable specially if it gets wet.

Is it really that hard to gauge the water temperature once a unit shuts off when the boiling process begins?

I have the black one and it leaks water from the bottom sometimes as well. I would pass on this and get a clear one

I've had mine for many years (black version), and never had any issues. Paid around the same price for it then too. That said, I don't like it. It feels flimsy and cheap. The the cork covered handle has a very thin metal core, that bends when lifting a full pot. This thing gets the job done, but I would never pay more than 25 bucks for it and would not purchase it again.

I have had the black one for close to two years and absolutely love it. I might have gotten lucky, but no leaks, paint peeling etc. Beyond using it for pour over coffee, one unexpected use was making pasta (real speed up when you start with boiled water).

In my experience, the potential leaking comes from when you fill the kettle with water. There is this metal heating rod that sticks up from the center and it has a little hole at the top. If you dump water in the kettle in the center and it goes through that hole, it will leak out the bottom. The hole has a little cover over it but the water can still enter in through the sides. It's kind of a dumb design so you have to be careful when you fill it. Otherwise, it works just fine.

I just wanted to chime in here. I bought a white plastic electric kettle from HD online more than a year ago for $11+. It has a clear side window to show you the water level. I'm happy with mine and prefer it over this.
