How's the build quality of HIFIMAN? I have heard from reddit that they aren't that great. Anyone have any thoughts?

I've only ever had HIFIMANs so I can't compare them to other brands. Build quality can be meh on certain models, but you can usually repair/replace pads and straps. The last two pairs I had lasted around 3-5 years of constant heavy use before they crapped out. You'll want a decent amp to power most of them, but the sound quality is where they shine. IMO.

In a previous SD thread their refurbs were recommended as having higher quality control. I've had a pair of XS refurbs for around 6 months now and they've been doing good so far.

ive only ever known sennheisers and they seem to last a while (minus the earpads) but yeah, i was looking for a new gaming headphones. My eyes are set on the hd 490 pro. but i hear the hifiman arya stealth are superior... i just dont wanna deal with it crapping out in a couple of years or something. anyways thanks

Not if they are already in a U.S. warehouse, but I'm not sure where they are shipped from.

thanks, but that was my question. as I understand it, HiFiMan is a Chinese company based in China. I'm not aware they have warehouses in the U.S.

They do sell through Amazon and will likely keep stock at Amazon, but usually discount coupons are only for their own website and not vendors like Amazon.

From their website: Q: Where do you ship my order from?
A: The package will be shipped from warehouses in China, in the US, or in the EU according to your location and our availability of stock. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] to confirm our availability of stock before you place the order.

The hifiman from Drop.com have a different headband design and often fail. It's a really dumb design. That could be part of but not all of the negative reviews. I purchased a refurbished pair of 400se 2yrs ago from hifiman and they're doing great! I recently paired them with a qudeiix 5k and shortly after bought a pair balanced cables from AliExpress for $13. I love them. Debating on trying a higher model next but I really like the sound from the 400se.
