If you like Greek mythology fan fiction and longed for a coming of age story shipping Achilles and Patroclus told from the perspective of Patroclus, this book is for you. The first half of the book is just an imagining of Patroclus' childhood and young love with Achilles. The second half takes place during the Trojan war but is told by Patroclus, who largely did not participate in the battle. It's hard to write an original story based on a story that's already been told a million times. I didn't know what to expect when I read it, but I didn't enjoy it. I'll give it props for originality, but the coming of age tragic love story fan fiction vibe wasn't for me.

3.5/5 stars. I listened to this on audiobook several years ago, and will probably give it another listen eventually. It's definitely got a tragic love story vibe that may kill it for some, or make the story shine if you are into that kind of thing. As an adventure story kind of reader, I enjoyed it.
