These are cool from the retro look and updated functionality, but design aesthetic aside, there are many better choices and options. Probably starting with the computer you already own and an 8BitDo Bluetooth gamepad and installing RetroArch.

Agreed, more of a shelf piece really. Everyone should look into getting a MiSTer which uses an FPGA for hardware accurate emulation will cover pretty much every game console and computer up and including PS1 and Saturn.
I have much nostalgia for the 7800, it being my first console and all. But even still, having a hard time justifying this. I want to want it, but for some reason I don't
You may be bored of this way sooner than you think. Some comments have already mentioned emulating using other devices. When you consider that you can emulate every system up to and beyond ps1/n64 pretty easily these days, Atari alone isn't much.

It is true that there are a whole host of ways that you can retro game these days, but that's not the point of a product like this. This "new" Atari is for an updated home console experience. What that means is this is for the person that wants to have (or have again) the experience of grabbing a joystick, plugging an Atari game cartridge into an Atari console, and playing their favorite 35-45yr old Atari games on television. Unlike an original, this new one works with modern TVs via HDMI. This is a very niche product but if you happen to be in that niche, this is a great deal.

These take the original Atari 7800 and 2600 cartridges so if you have an existing collection this is a great deal.
