I chose this over the encore mainly for the convenience.

I got lazy over time with storing the beans in an airtight container and precisely measuring the grind weight for my pour over. On my breville I store my beans in the hoper and it has a grind time feature. Since I make the same amount of coffee every morning I have it set to 12.3 seconds which gets me pretty close to the same ground weight I need. I can adjust the shot size to accommodate different grind times

It solves my problem where I can't think in the morning w/o coffee but I need to think to make coffee.

I paid $200 for this grinder 5 years ago at the onset of covid, and it sees daily use in my home. Highly recommend.

I would choose the Baratza. I had the Smart Grinder Pro for two years and there is a tendency for a piece inside of it break and not allow grinds to drop down the chute. Breville support didn't have a solution for me so I upgraded to a Baratza Sette 270 four years ago.

I prefer the Encore to fancier options like this since I don't care about dosing/timing. I store all my beans in containers for freshness and measure them out with a 0.1g sensitive scale (mostly for espresso shots) before grinding the whole batch.

I've replaced the burr carrier about five or six times in the three-ish years I've owned the thing. I should probably see if there's a 3D model I can print. No idea why it keeps breaking because I rarely adjust the grind size, and I never store beans in the hopper. I weigh out 64g of beans every morning, dump it in, and turn it on. Even with a new carrier the grind isn't great, but it is okay enough to use.

Just because I haven't seen it discussed yet, I would say this is a pretty solid grinder for drip, pour-over, etc - but I would not recommend this grinder for espresso. It has huge issues with retention, and while 3g off isn't going to effect your pour-over, it's going to massively alter an espresso shot.

the baratza all the way. i have been using the smart grinder for a few years and the plastic impeller below the metal burrs wears out and grinding just halts as big pieces of the bean get stuck. this has the advantage of grinding without measuring. just set it and it keeps that setting until you change it. also people complain that it doesnt grind fine enough for espresso like the baratza can. i dont have an espresso machine, so cannot comment.

I have the 10 year old version of this model. I don't like how the hopper tapers at the bottom. I like dark oily coffee beans and they get stuck in the hopper and the grinder "dry fires" if I'm not there to babysit it and shake it. There's definitely too many settings, a true pun on the word granular lol. Seriously, there's no need for 30 or whatever it works out to number of grind size. I do splash a little water on my hands before emptying the ground coffee since static can make it fly all over the place.
